demolition man Posted November 16, 2013 Report Posted November 16, 2013 This could be up for grabs soon.
Guest bigda Posted November 16, 2013 Report Posted November 16, 2013 looks quite tidy, from the outside
Guest Owen Posted November 16, 2013 Report Posted November 16, 2013 Bernieare you deliberately trying to wind me up or what? A vehicle like that would be guaranteed to cook the birds. No wonder they want to sell it. If anyone buys it they would have to spend money on modifying it to make it suitable to transport pigeons.

Owen, The federation in question has folded leaving many of their clubs and members without anywhere to fly. So please be considerate and there are many transporters like this used up and down the country without any problems.

Ps and I'm not looking for a free pint in the big blue or the wee green
demolition man Posted November 17, 2013 Author Report Posted November 17, 2013 Bernieare you deliberately trying to wind me up or what? A vehicle like that would be guaranteed to cook the birds. No wonder they want to sell it. If anyone buys it they would have to spend money on modifying it to make it suitable to transport pigeons. Owen The body of this transporter has been used for many years in the Essex area and the losses have never been out of the ordinary I never raced much this year and never raced a youngbird so i can't really comment on my own racing in 2013. However I do know two fanciers that did race on this transporter in 2013. one being my nephew the other being Terry McCarthy both these fanciers work their birds hard my nephew started with around 40 youngbirds and ended the season with around 36 Terry McCarthy not 100% what youngbirds he started with but was sending 50 plus birds towards the end. So maybe its not transporters like this that are not fit for purpose. Maybe it's the birds that fanciers put in the crates. Regards Bernie
Guest Owen Posted November 17, 2013 Report Posted November 17, 2013 Bernieas you will know I am busy at the moment trying to work out the best way to transport pigeons to the race point. You may have read the posts on the subject so when I saw your transporter sitting there looking for a new home I couldn't resist a comment. If you say it works for you then that is fine and nothing to do with anyone. However I really am suspicious of the type of roof you have on it. It looks like a heat sink to me.In regard to your comment about the poor quality of pigeons being kept. I couldn't agree more. I went to Aberdare recently and saw people with their little boxes taking birds to presumably breed with. They will have paid good money foe these birds and I would be willing to bet that most of them will end up producing crap. Shortly we will all be pairing up to breed a new crop of youngsters for next year. I am sure that there will be plenty of useless birds used to breed youngsters which will be doomed to fail from the word go. There are basic genetic rules in breeding that do not seem to be understood. I find it sad that people will spend hours trying to learn about stuff that means nothing such as many of the theories and not bother to work out the rules of hereditary. I still think that having paid out the money and spent the time to produce the best birds we can we really would be stupid to allow them to be abused by poor transport facilities when we don't have to. It is just a question of working out what will work and what will not, then making a plan and sticking to it. Simple really.
Guest IB Posted November 17, 2013 Report Posted November 17, 2013 It's not an advert so my comments are not made to put a potential buyer off. I'm also conscious there is another thread on Transporter design, so my comments will be related to design only. My Federation designed and built a conventional 7.5t unit similar to this one in 2006. It uses wicker baskets rather than crates, the baskets are varnished. Only one of the basket racks is fixed, the other is able to be moved outwards by crank handle to increase the width of centre corridor by about a foot - the rack projects slightly beyond the outer bodywork, airing the baskets. The birds are simultaneously released in two waves on each side, bottom tiers slightly earlier than top, again by crank handle, from the rear of the centre corridor. The roof lets in light but reflects heat. It is not perspex and above the centre corridor there are 4 fans and 2 sky lights which can open for further ventilation. The exterior curtains are white to reflect sun's heat away from the vehicle. The floor is steel to allow steam or spray cleaning. The water tank, dispensing hose & fittings are plastic to allow easy disinfection.
Guest Owen Posted November 17, 2013 Report Posted November 17, 2013 Ian,I think that the sort of thing that you have just written is ideal providing that you go to the next step. In every case there should be a system of audit. This means that after building the vehicle observing all and everything aimed at producing the best conditions for the pigeons it has to be tested to ensure that it works as planned. I am sure that when we take this whole subject seriously and accept that we need to transport the pigeons in the best way possible we will all see the benefits. In addition to the design of the vehicles we also need to see that the condition of the vehicle is checked for both cleanliness and to ensure that the exhaust system is working and sealed as it should be. If we don't go to the at step we could end up with well designed vehicles that are filthy dirty and spouting exhaust fumes.I think that the thing that annoys me right now is the fact that the Unions should be taking the lead on this because they would have a better chance of co-ordinating things than we who are hundreds of miles apart and on limited budgets. Some time later we will need to discuss another difficult subject. Namely, clashing and control of liberations. Now that whole area should require the involvement of the Unions to take an active part in how things are managed and monitored.
Guest maricelbill Posted December 16, 2013 Report Posted December 16, 2013 reading this i'm wondering if insulating transporter roofs would be beneficial. might be expensive to retro fit i don;t know. it would certainly keep temperatures inside the container cooler on really hot days. i'm not tarting a campaign I've just nothing better to do at this moment in time. good luck with the sale bernie if it come to that. folding is the last thing anyone needs mate.
