My loft is surrounded by trees so no air flow at the bottom as it causes dampness.. I have a 4 inch gap running the length of the landing board/loft and the same at the back...it seems to work well at the moment..here is the view from my sitting hut you will see the gap at the front

Just a thought, do your loft walls extend far enough over the flooring?

 

Water could be creeping in under the walls and seeping into the floor if the walls don't extend far enough.

 

I've just had a new loft built and the buggers that built it put one row of loglap short on the bottom, so that the walls only partially covered the floor joists and when we had all this rain lately the edges of my floor were wet. I bought some t&g loglap and added another row all the way round and it's sorted now, dry as a bone.
