very itelligent dogs kess was like a rocket with endless stamina in the pic with the big hill behind her shes coursed a hare right up over that hill and killed it at the top hill of beath it looked smaller from a distance but once i got to the foot off the hill i wasnt even gonna attempt to retrieve it that was her only fault she never retrieved hares but not many dogs do prince only carried back if there was cattle in the field all retrieved rabbits fine but i only used them on rabbits the night before going coursing to loosen em up just 1 or 2 kess was never injured either she was a precision jump as were prince got hung up on a FEW barbed wire fences usualy freeing himsel and carrying on with bad injurys the bedlington in him big big heart i laugh at the english dogs down the fens running 50 miles in big open fields thats not coursing our dogs contained the hares in very small fields and coursed em not following em like the fen dogs i could catch a hare mysel without a dog down the fens there is a few good not knocking english dogs as kess come from Doncaster

moutain hares are easy caught iv seen boys carrying there dogs off the hills the heather pulls the legs out off them and iv been out with the travellers on many occasions very silly as i was only a young boy and they could have thrown me out the van at anytime and keep my dogs i sold the 2 white dogs in the field to them they also offered 2 grand for kess but no way was she going aywhere could have done with the cash back then but dogs like that dont come along too often i was too skint to put money on her or i could have made tens of thousands travellers are big money men when it comes to coursing i only got 160 quid for the 2 whites but they were sub standard compared to the other 2

hears 2 of my old lurchers glen in foreground pepper at the back.glen was unbeaten on day time hares against all comers over the years.pepper got sold to boys from fife that long ago i can,t mind their names. glen was also midlothian and district champion and lauderdale and district res champion in show ring. he also took on some top dogs at racing up hill after a lure and won 4 out 4 races that day. bearded collie x greyhound dam stag greyhound sire glen 27 and a half in to shoulder pepper 26in to shoulder.also won lauderdale pairs with them in show.both where kept very fit when all fields frozen solid by chasing the hare at wallyford dog track.think only photo i have of them

i went out with travelers/gypsies hunting with the dogs years back i had glen with me. we where at a place called drem.we got in the the fields and slipped the dogs . the travelers dogs where hunting the ground about 40 /50 yards in front of us as glen normally did.this day he disappeared from site. the biggest guy their started ranting and going of his nut because glen was out of site for a fair bit. i thought then i was going to get done in.so walked a bit a head of them and to be truthful was ready for the off well 1 of me and 4 of them f{@@@' that. i got to the corner of field and looked up in to the other field theirs glen toiling to drag back a roe deer.i was quick back to the 4 of them and said the only time Glen is gone this long is if he brings down a deer . well that sent the biggest of them in to a rage .i kept well out his way.as we got to the corner of field i let 1 of them point out glen and the roe deer. after that i was safe and top notch and glen was a top class dog and even the biggest of them was now wanting to be my new best friend.
