Got a cock bird here that has started to make a raspy noise when breathing. Throat looks clear, nostrils clean and otherwise alright in itself apart from not wanting to fly when let out. Any ideas folks?

It would be hard to guess what might be wrong with your bird and you should take it to a Vet or an experienced Fancier. However, as a guess I would say that your loft is the problem.

Pigeons need a heck of a lot more fresh air than most people realise. Most lofts are away too enclosed even the ones that the Owners think are fine. One of the essential things pigeons need are aviaries where they can laze about in the sun and enjoy the rain.

I reckon that if you find one pigeon with breathing problems there will be others that are ill but not quite as bad.

I know people who spend fortunes on medication for their birds to prevent them from getting respiratory problems. The answer is easy if they only but realise it. If they made certain that the birds got plenty of air and sunshine they could save money and do better in the races.
