FoxesFan4Ever Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 Hi guys, It is our breeder/buyer next week and I have a little red hen who needs building up quite a bit before she goes. I need her to add some timber but also not be overloaded when she goes. Also she had a hard time in the heat yesterday and didn't come in until this morning so she wont even get much training this week. If she doesn't look match fit she wont go but obviously I am hoping I can get her there seeing as it's what I bought her for. So,what do you think...how do I put some meat on her. All responses gratefully received. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guest darren cantrill Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 plenty of rest plenty of what she wants to eat i.e if shes picking up a certain seed etc plenty of it im prepping one for weds and one for saturday i get in the pen as soon as its light this week and give an extra feed at night so instead of feeding at 8am then at 6pm this week these 2 pigeons have a feed at 6am feed at 1pm and feed at 7pm and i feed till they go for water one of mine for next week homed late yesterday so will give some short confidence boosting chucks from 17miles to see if i can pull the trigger on her so to speak will chuck her up with the rest then chuck her solo
Wiley Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 Foxes how thin is she? It's surprising how quick a bird can put on weight. Do you feel she would gorge herself if given a huge quantity? If her digestive system is up to scratch, I personally what I do with all race young birds is give them a full trough for 3 days for one hour of maples and tic beans on return from the race. They need as much protein synthesis as possible to repair the muscles fibres that have been torn during the race. The mix will then change to a high carb, high fat but a lesser quanity per pigeon and you will find the bird by the weekend will blow up like a ballon, big but light if that makes sense
FoxesFan4Ever Posted August 20, 2012 Author Report Posted August 20, 2012 Thank you both for your replies. Wiley, I don't have any seperate bags of seeds, only mixes. I feed YB no maize most of the time with 25% added depurative mon,tue wed. I do have other mixes, super w/hood, all rounder an reg w/hood along with layer pellets, hemp, safflower and peanuts. I guess I left it a bit late but if you think i can do anything with that lot please let me know. Thanks again

But in my opinion young birds need maize to perform at it's best
FoxesFan4Ever Posted August 21, 2012 Author Report Posted August 21, 2012 Maybe that's where I'm falling down then. I'll feed it for the rest of the season and see if things pick up. They can't go down much, thats for sure. Thanks again
