Guest stb- Posted August 6, 2012 Report Posted August 6, 2012 check for worms or canker as summit else must be taking the goodness from the feed on the other hand some pigeons dont carry a lot of weight regrdless of what you feed them ,
Guest ljb107 Posted August 6, 2012 Report Posted August 6, 2012 I'd be looking at why they need weight put on them, not what i can use to put weight on them
buster151 Posted August 7, 2012 Author Report Posted August 7, 2012 I cut there feed as they was landing every where except the loft think went to far so now need to build back up as when racing they are burning body weight/fat
flying fifer Posted August 7, 2012 Report Posted August 7, 2012 Any mixture high in protein Ideal mixture peanuts, maple peas. tic beans and red band in equal amounts. DONT KEEP THEM ON IT FOR MORE THAN 3days.Any longer and they won't want to fly.

Tony C Posted August 7, 2012 Report Posted August 7, 2012 any guide-lines as to how much "brewers yeast" to use ,i understand yeast infections are common in young birds ?? I've been giving mine brewers yeast for many years now, when I mix it on their feed I judge by the consistency as to how much. At a guess I would say a heaped tablespoon per kilo. I believe glucose, sugars, anti-biotics & multivits contribute more to yeast problems in pigeons than brewers yeast does.

Wiley Posted August 7, 2012 Report Posted August 7, 2012 Mix brewers yeast on their feed, dampen feed with freshed squeezed lemon tis best Consistancy I find is best to make it up like my nan makes onion gravy, not thick but not thin either, mix it onto the grains and place ontop of your boiler or cover with cling film and leave out in the sun, the flies love the yeast. When it is dry you should be able to brake it up. I find this is the best way. any guide-lines as to how much "brewers yeast" to use ,i understand yeast infections are common in young birds ?? Andy, using anything to change the ph in the crop will then destroy the yeast unless your heavily using multi vitamins and glucose based products throughout the week providing the sugar that the yeast feeds and thrives off. A high carb content feed can do this also, hence the reason we give our birds something in the water to change the ph, it consists of One whole lemon cut into quatres, 50ml of cider vinegar, one whole garlic bulb, to one pint of water. With this we then take 30ml of the tonic to two litres of water. This is made up in a milk bottle 3 days prior to the days we give it, and we give it 2 days racing, and anything upto 4-5 times in the off season a week. We always shake the bottle well before use and we use it in every loft here.

I was told by a Vet that there are good Yeast and bad Yeast and Brewers Yeast is a good one, and also told a heaped table spoon full per kilo, Also i was told IF i was to use antibiotics to dampen there corn a little with cider-vinegar during treatment that would help keep the yeast and canker count down. how good it works i dont know not tried it.

Guest geordiejen Posted August 7, 2012 Report Posted August 7, 2012 how often in general do you give the brewers yeast to the birds?
Wiley Posted August 7, 2012 Report Posted August 7, 2012 how often in general do you give the brewers yeast to the birds? Myself personally the birds get enough for the first 5 feeds on return, meaning the last time they would eat brewers yeast corn would be Monday morning Might give this a try By all means give it a try, give it a good shake every day as well as prior to use
