Mogga Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 Hello all, I don't have any birds at the moment, but I'm thinking of keeping show homers. If I decide to go ahead is it difficult to buy stock for this breed ? I notice too that some breeders have been selling sick birds, so would that be a problem ? Thanks, Mogga.
Runt3 Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 G'Day M8 What ones ENGLISH SHOW HOMERS or EXHIBITION HOMER OR SHOW RACERS or THE US of A SHOW RACERS ;D
Mogga Posted June 23, 2009 Author Report Posted June 23, 2009 Showing my ignorance here mate, I thought there was only one, so I think it's probably English show homers. Also is it true to say these birds don't get out to fly ? Mogga.
Guest grizzler Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 hi mogga..there were some nice show racers being sold on here by chrissy, i dont think you will need to worry about the birds health if you buy from a site like this..as i think most people on here are honest..dont buy birds from birdtrader or other sites like that ..or you will be asking for trouble, and the quality wont be the same...best of luck :)
pjc Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 As Runt says, do some homework on which you want. Show racers are happy to be kept in but will also happily free fly if you want them to! Like these of mine.

Mogga Posted June 23, 2009 Author Report Posted June 23, 2009 Hi Ladies and gents, thanks for the replies. The birds in the photos are terrific, are they english show homers ? Mogga.
b.massey Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 Mogga these are whats known as Show racers.... They are the birds you want if it is for showing them in the winter months. These birds are the ones you want if you want to tackle big shows like Blackpool in January
Guest spin cycle Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 do show racers have to race during the season to qualify for showing ?
pjc Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 Bottom picture of the red is a cracker. That yours maye? I'd have to check the ring number but sure its mine, if not it spitting image and the pic is Norman Perry's.
pjc Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 do show racers have to race during the season to qualify for showing ? no they don't unless you want to enter them in flown classes. Most of the big shows have seperate classes for flown racers and show racers.
Guest beautyhomer Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 Show homers are one of three fancy homer breeds developed from racing pigeons in Britain. The other two are Exhibition homers and Genuine homers. All three breeds have a distinctive pearl (white) eye.As a rule none of these breeds are allowed their freedom.
