preston powerblast Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 I feel much rested today and not as irritable as I was last night and if I offended anyone, then please accept my sincere apologies.I think we need to approach this campaign, with a much more positive attitude. In having had two days to comb through SHU Report, I can honestly see where the Scottish fanciers are coming from, all the hard work, by everyone that went into the report. Only to see it fail.I can now see why there is so much apprehension, to a new campaign.OK, now let me show you some courses of action we can now take. 1. We can admit defeat, here and now and call it a day. There's no shame, we gave it our best shot and failed. 2. We can also look at our opponent the mighty RSPB, with their 90 million pound disposable budget and say that they are too powerful for us,the fancy to take on and will defeat us before we start, by simply waving their bank balance in our face. 3. We could start shouting and screaming, vowing to take matters into our own hands, which will not only discredit the fanciers and the fancy as a whole, but will also show us to be inhuman, give the weight to the RSPB persecution of Birds Of Prey campaign.Leave us all open to prosecution and show that we have no faith in the democratic process. 4. Up to now our campaign has cost nothing, but a little bit of time, we have managed to highlight our problem on a budget of £0.00. It also seems that the RSPB has got the press in their pocket as they just don't seem to interested in helping us in any way at the moment.Lets look at the big picture, the fancy is not just localised to UK, neither is the Raptor problem. There are fanciers all over the world, experiencing what we are, OK it may not be on the same scale, but they are sympathetic to our problem and want to help. Why not involve everyone and prove to the powers that be that, for years there as been a big problem, but now it's a huge problem. A problem that has now got out of control. Just a thought guys, what do you think
OLDYELLOW Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 We have no power to alter laws in other countries and vice versa so basically a no brainer as they would say. The press and those in the media aren't as daft as they look they know Pigeons both wild and domesticated aren't on any red list nor will they be , the campaign was flawed before it started , there's enough facts and figures out there already to help champion a cause against raptors . If the approach was from Song birds and wild birds the facts and numbers are already there to be utilised , Photo of a Percy eating a green woodpecker on my facebook , how shocking is that an actual red list species been eaten on a photo . As said 600 people signed at Blackpool out of 100,000 , fanciers alone won't work , we need the backing of the general public to make this work , you wont get that with pigeons alone.
preston powerblast Posted February 15, 2012 Author Report Posted February 15, 2012 I sat and watched Braveheart this morning. It did inspire me, now I know what he was up against.Just hope I don't get hung drawn and quartered. LOL

GhEtToStar Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 There is enough fanciers in Britain to take this campaign to the public covering all of Britain we all just need to work together get fact sheets made and start chapping doors we need to tell that wee old lady who is about to leave thousands in her will to the RSPCA why her songbirds have gone and who is responsible
GhEtToStar Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 You heard the guy :animatedpigeons:What are you going to do with the petition and again chap doors you cant win this with internet petitions alone and alot of the RSPCA loyals are old and cant work the Internet
DAVIDL Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 i think the difference between the rspb and the rpra/fanciers is that the rspb have an ongoing campaign to raise funds and "educate" joe public about how we must all protect the bops and hawks against persecution............they are on the streets in town centres and supermarkets touting for donations and support, all the pigeon fraternity do is done amoung our own ie the homing world or racing pigeon weekly, instead of these rpra volenteers who take this mobile pigeon trailer they have to shows etc, trying to entice joe public to keep pigeons......why dont they and others campaign about how our pigeons are being slaughtered by these killers and show joe public photos/proof of whats happening.........? the general public if not told any different will believe all what the rspb is telling them......JMO
THE PRIEST Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 I think the only way forward is to educate the public and the only way this is possible is a campaign of advertisments in the national press . I am no expert but i am sure it would cost a good bit but if we had sales and fund raising perhaps we would have a chance. We have got to get too the heart strings of the public and ask them to sign the petition . The way to get too them is perhaps with the stories of bravery during both wars of the racing pigeons. The winners of the dickins medals for example.I have printed of a few coppies of the petition and hope to get as many signatures as possible but it may take time.
preston powerblast Posted February 15, 2012 Author Report Posted February 15, 2012 Your right mate, in fact you are all right. We do all need to get behind this and do our bit and all these issues do need addressing, but I am one fancier, if I can make this much noise, how much noise can a 100,000 make.We do need to bring the fancy in from out of the dark ages and bring it to the public. The public need to be aware of who we are and what we do.In Belgium and Holland it's promoted as a family sport, it's even on the TV. We need to get more trailers and take them to every town and city.We need to do school visits, community loft projects, hell there's enough spare land in the country to do this. There's lots can be done to promote our sport, but it has never been done.WHY???
Guest Tooshy Boy Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 WHEN A HAWK KILLS A BIRD PUT IT IN A BOX TAKE IT TO THE TOWN CENTRE AND TELL THE PUBLIC WHAT HAPPEN TO IT.///
