Saj Posted October 3, 2011 Report Posted October 3, 2011 I need some advice. I keep show kings (fat fancy pigeons) and there covered in lice - i've tried ivermectin drops and hyperdrugs easytox with some sucess. After 2 weeks i can still see a few feather lice. I've ordered Eqvalan Horse Wormer Paste - can i give them this during the molt as there are a few still going through it? Also i need to vacinate them for pmv. Any advice how i should wait betwwen them?
Guest IB Posted October 3, 2011 Report Posted October 3, 2011 My understanding is that ivermectin does not kill feather-browsing insects like lice very quickly, if at all, unless and until they also feed on skin / skin debris. Also it cannot be used during the annual moult. A permethrin dip like chlorcarb or spray like Johnsons or even household fly spray directly onto the bird's feathers is much more effective for lice. Another remedy is garlic in their bath water, as it's an insecticide. The only label 'warning' with PMV injection is not to inject when breeding, all other times like moult, seem to be OK.
just ask me Posted October 3, 2011 Report Posted October 3, 2011 ivermectin can cause infertility too in pigeons so for that reason alone i would never use it again
Guest ljb107 Posted October 3, 2011 Report Posted October 3, 2011 I use ardap, one spray under each wing will kill anything there. Lloyd
