Guest Doostalker Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 I have some concerns regarding the "Forum Reputation" system. I have not been on the site much recently due to having peple staying. I checked in this mornig to note that I have picked up a negative posting on my forum reputation. The preset system means that I don't know why I have got in someone's bad books. I seem to be in good company though, as when you check out various members, some of the regular posters who seem to be benefitting the site have picked up one, or more, negatives. I had a quick word with the Webmaster, and he hopes to change the system so that any posting on the forum reputration will need to have a justification as well; same as on e bay. In the meantime, would it not be a good idea that anyone posting a positive/negative on the reputation also be encouraged to pm the individual and say why they are doing it? Seems only right and proper to me. If you want to compliment/slag some one, you should at least have the moral gumption to say why. What do you think?? :-/ ??)
samantha Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 I think you are absolutely right, I see no need for the negative one at all, If I think that someone has gone out of the way to offer good advice I always give a + so I think that I would like that part to stay Anonymous, but if there was something that I didnt like and I couldnt overlook it, a pm is the way to deal with it, a - seems underhanded to me, and someone could give it to you without thought, when it must be actually quite hurtful Well we dont think any less of you doorstalker, 100% or not!!! and I hope that the webmaster takes away the nagative and just leaves the positive so that it works by building up positives from other members!! ??)
Guest Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 i am the same doostalker i havn't done any thing only given good advice and my forum reputation has gone down.
Guest Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 doostalker i will also give you a + because you have give me good advice however i just havn't got round to it sorry! all the best paul carter
Guest Doostalker Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 Thanks for all the positive responses, and also for the +ve's in my FR. I honestly wasn't looking for any personal gain in raising this issue. I just think that it is unfair that any anonymous person can denigrate some one else not for anything to do with the website or what the individual has been posting, but maybe for other totally unrelated reasons....or just out of badness. This site has become a tremendous asset to the fancy, where everyone is generally very supportive of each other. Where any disagreements occur they are either settled or not but always in a harmonious manner. :)
Guest Doostalker Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 You may have a point there Don. The Webmaster is changing the system soon and it may be that it then will be more open and allow for explanation and perhaps retraction if necessary. In the meantime it just doesn't seem right the way it stands.
snowy Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 very true all, all i have recieved from anyone on this forum is good advice, so keep watching your % go up up up. thanks all.
Webmaster Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 I say--Do away with the Reputation - I have seen things on here I did not like BUT hey I could taken it the wrong way. and once you have clicked the + or -- its no changeing it. If you have clicked + on a members reputation you can change it, but only to a -, or equally the other way around. I am in agreement with you guys on this issue, its not perfect; but is it better than nothing? - I think so. The modification to the reputation system may be a while in comming (I cannot do it myself), in the meantime in your opinion is it better on, or off? :-/
Guest Doostalker Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 Agree with Don that you are doing a great service for the Fancy, Webmaster. However, your suggested changes in the FR format will remove a matter of some concern, and thus easily avoid an issue that could lead to some upset. I would trust that in my recent discussion with you, and the postings I have made on this subject, you in no way think that I am levelling any "flak" at you. On the contrary, the proposals regarding the FR would be a positive improvement to the site. Keep up the good work Richard!
Webmaster Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 No Doostalker, on the conterary; I look forward to getting these constructive comments. I'm never happy with everything on the site, and that is why we are under continous improvment; your suggestions just point me in the right direction
jimmy white Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 HAVE TO AGREE WITH DOOSTALKER, DONT KNOW HOW HIS REPUTATION WENT DOWN AS FAR AS I CAN SEE HE S MADE SOME BRILLIANT COMMENTS, SAME AS POOR SPECKLED,, SHES NOT TOO WELL TONIGHT, SHE WAS ALLWAYS 100 P.C.THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN 60 PC GIVE HER A FEW PLUSES AND CHEER HER UP WHEN SHE GETS UP TOMORROW. IT SEEMS TO ME ITS NOTHING TO DO WITH POSTS, ITS JUST THAT IF SOME ONE DOESNT LIKE YOU THEY PUT A MINUS ,A WEE BIT UNFAIR I WOULD SAY ILL PROBABLY BE ZERO NOW HA HA
Guest Doostalker Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 Looks like you could be right Jimmy. Reasons for -ves are probably nothing to do with postings on the site. Maybe it came from someone who is jealous of my good looks and charismatic personality! lol :D Must stay off the caffeine and sugar.............
samantha Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 I think you are right terry, there is rumour going round that your quite a looker!!
Guest Doostalker Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 Samantha, you have hit the nail on the head. I have often been mistaken for a film star; Lon Chaney Jnr.....(showing my age there too!) Anyway, the only Rumours you should listen to are the ones made by Fleetwood Mac!
samantha Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 sorry Terry straight over my head! lon chaney..who! fleetwood..who! both just a little before my time, but probably not much, more of an 80,s girl
Guest Doostalker Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 Sorry to disappoint you all but Lon Chaney and his son Lon Chaney Jnr (original eh?) both played in tons of films. Both best remembered for parts in old horror films such as Wolfman and the Mummy etc. Get my drift now? LC Jnr also starred as Chingachcook in old TV series Last of the Mohicans in the 50's.....God I feel old!! Samantha what do you mean you don't remember Fleetwood Mac?? You're having a laugh....... :)
samantha Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 No, I know the name but not the music, sorry!
snowy Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 samantha? are you sure the rumour going round was he was a bit of a LUCKER ?????? OR??? only joking doostalker....(my humor)
Guest Doostalker Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 Looks like Samantha needs a spell check eh Snowy??
Guest shadow Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 you just earned a +,i agree. I have just noticed my reputation has gone down to 75% for only one negative postin but can't think what I have said to upset antbody.
Webmaster Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 I've been pondering over the reputation system for a few days now, and I asked myself what is it bringing to the site? I couldnt think of anything of value that it brings, and infact I can see how it could upset some members; so I've taken it off. Maybe when the updates have been made I'll add it on again, but we'll see when the time comes.
Guest Doostalker Posted September 9, 2005 Report Posted September 9, 2005 Good move Webmaster. In its present form it could cause upset and disillusion.
maddy706 Posted September 9, 2005 Report Posted September 9, 2005 I also have had negatives and don't know why, it seems u don't have to do much or say anything too get them
stucky 1 Posted October 10, 2005 Report Posted October 10, 2005 What is this reputation thing you all talking about, as dont understand it.
