snowy Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 What a great & in my opinion true reading off liam. on the home page.
Guest Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 Agree with you Snowy. Reckon same myself, enough is enough and its time we started doing something to remedy this. Scottish North West Fed AGM tonight: 'not before 1200' liberations for YBs, first three races; all YB races will have OBs with them too (seperate baskets); agreed participate in a 5/6 federation amalagamation (for OBs, after 200 miles) so that all central scotland birds go to same racepoints, racing home to the same area, and for a fraction of the normal convoying cost. And we are building a new transporter, with bulk of the monies spent on 'the box' to ensure the birds have modern facilities which meet all known welfare requirements. Also agreed training OBs and YBs with this new transporter. In my opinion, we've made a good start......... How about the others?
snowy Posted December 19, 2005 Author Report Posted December 19, 2005 thats exactly what needs to happen bruno, im far from a expert on liberations, but it was just that when i started again early this year , everyone i spoke to was all telling the same story,? "HOW MANY Y/BIRDS THEY HAVE LOST, but just looking & how many they breed & throw into races & they are so young. (i was just amazed that they all was wondering WHY?) it stuck out like a sore thumb to me! :
Guest Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 I think it is often the case that someone fresh into any sport, like yourself Snowy, can spot things which don't quite add up yet the 'old hands' take it all for granted. Agree with you about young birds and training. Forever quoting Shadow: quality not quantity. The fewer you have, the more time you'll have to make a good all-round job of their schooling and training. Hope I still have the bottle to go for it in 2006. 8)
snowy Posted December 19, 2005 Author Report Posted December 19, 2005 ive emailed the rpra with my views & mentioning liams write up on the home page, & you have the knowledge bruno & bottle, its just putting it into reality, which im sure you will do a great job of it in 2006. 8)
Guest Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 Very interesting concept which was tried by the Eugene Club (Western Oregon) a couple of seasons ago, Unfortunately it didn't work very well as the old birds were too far in the moult to do the experiment justice
peterpau Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 Don't know about that one snowy last to pair in our club 10/11 March. Won longest young bird race last two years and returns pretty good bred 40 still got 19. Too many
snowy Posted April 23, 2006 Author Report Posted April 23, 2006 still a lot to lose , dont you think?
