pault Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 hi all my computer has stopped working and comes up with a blue screen and it says fatal error i have had to take it to a computer shop to get fixed gutted £65.00 it needs to be wiped clean so all the data i had on it will be lost has any one else had this happen to them and what reason was give the lad said it my have been do by an update from microsoft that has caused it to crash :'(
Whats it called Cumbernauld Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 Going through the same problem. Computer only 6 months old and I have had them suggest, anything from music, to downloading pictures from my phone as an excuss. True is computers are meant to do all this, or are they not. Now they have sent me a new hard drive, and told me to change it myself. Whatever happen to customer service or care. Crazy world we live in now. Cheers Rab Smith (Victor Meldrew)
carlsberg Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 my dad's computer crashed the other day got to have it sent off for repair
pault Posted June 6, 2008 Author Report Posted June 6, 2008 it was only 10 months old but you are at the mercy of the computer gecks the lad went on a computer forum and there was lots of posts about the same prob so look out for them updates
Ronnie Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 Ok reboot the computer and when its starting up tap f8 you will get a screen up asking to boot in various states pick safe mode and if it starts it will load into windows and ask if you would like to reset to an earlier date follow the onscreen instructions reboot to an earlier date and if it works all ya data will still be on there. Blue screen of death is usually due to hardware incompatability after an update or new hardware being installed(or failing).
pault Posted June 6, 2008 Author Report Posted June 6, 2008 i tried that ronnie no good and he also tried it *expletive removed* microsoft sh**
Bluedoo Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 What version of software are you running, some versions you can use your installation disk and you get the option to try and repair from there.
pjc Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 Always make a reboot disc and run regular backups so you don't lose everything. Phil
pault Posted June 6, 2008 Author Report Posted June 6, 2008 Always make a reboot disc and run regular backups so you don't lose everything. Phil phil can you give me some info on how i do a reboot disk for future XP i dont have a disk
Bluedoo Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 Before you blow everthing away, try booting off your XP cd. It will say its loading a lot of files but dont worry about this. It thinks it is going to do a new install. Follow the instructions as though you are doing a full rebuild. Hopefully you will get a message like "found another version of windows at C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32" can't remeber the exact wording,b but if it finds this you should get the chance to repair. I think it just says "do you want to repair this version press R" Again cant remeber exact wording, but it reinstalls the esential files and also leaves your data intact. Well worth a try.
sapper756 Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 Is ti possible to copy all your clubs ETS info onto a disc, incase the computer crashes?
Bluedoo Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 Shouldn't be a problem. Depends on size of data. If you have USB just get a memory stick 5-6 quid, easy and fast to copy to update etc.
