hi guys

 

can a pair sit 3 eggs and rear 3 young bird or will it be to much for them im asking because on a prev post 2 days ago i said about 1 of my hens going off her legs after laying the 1st egg well she is showing slight improvement but still cant stand :unsure: and the cock will come off the eggs soon as he has been on his own so i have put a sticker on the eggs to mark them and moved the eggs under 2 other pairs that laid on the same day but dont know if they can rear 3 ybs??? :emoticon-0138-thinking::unsure::emoticon-0138-thinking:

It's a few years back, but one member on the forum asked the same question, then let them rear 3 youngsters. His view at the end of it was yes it can be done, but at the expense of all 3 youngsters, they weren't as good as they could/should have been.

 

If you definitely want the eggs you'd be better fostering both of them under another pair whose eggs are less important to you, and ditch those.

 

Another alternative might be : give the cock pot eggs to sit. The hen should be OK in a couple of days, and may go back on the eggs in which case you can transfer her eggs back.

a good friend of mine has a hen that lays three eggs

regularly and hatches and rear same, I had one of the young

from this pair and did well with it, the other two went to

another guy who also did well with them,so my opinion is

it don't do them any harm.
