Guest pied 09 Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 are there any factors that would make it active?

Guest IB Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 can the birds contact yeast infection from putting brewers yeast on the feed as a colliege of mine had this diagnosed last season got the tested to be told it was yeast infection he had poor season. thank you jim Normally I associate yeast infection with antibiotic use. Bacteria help prevent yeast spreading out of control, so when an antibiotic kills gut bacteria it upsets the gut's normal balance leaving more room for yeast to grow. Probiotics are recommended after antibiotic treatment to prevent yeast and other pathogens taking hold, by quickly restoring that balance. On Brewers Yeast & yeast infection, over the years on this forum, the advice has been not to feed yeast when your birds have a yeast infection because it makes infection worse. Now pardon my ignorance as I thought the reason for this was because Brewers Yeast was live. Well it's not. Yet in human health, the advice is the same, don't take Brewers Yeast when you have a yeast infection. I haven't been able to find out why. But my guess is that dead Brewers Yeast acts like a probiotic for live yeast, helping further growth and spreading the infection.

Wiley Posted February 10, 2011 Report Posted February 10, 2011 you will find you'll get yeast infections by feeding a high sugar based diet, i.e plenty of maize ect. Hence why many fanciers used to use either lemon juice or cider vinegar.

Where they just off form, or did the product cure them, i couldnt say as i heard many bad reports from the said vet after using them saying every report had a yeast infection even after the prescribed treatment.
