shasha Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 hi team .can any1 tell me i have 2 cocks and they are eating there eggs WHY IS THAT? thanks barry.
Guest Tooshy Boy Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 ARE THEY GETTING PLENTY GRIT AND MINERALS.///
shasha Posted February 4, 2011 Author Report Posted February 4, 2011 Cheers Guys, think you's may be right. The birds that are eating the eggs are still penned-off, and although they are getting grit and minerals they aren't gettin free access like the others to the grit etc. Was told by a mate that it could poss be mice but I thought that a bit weird as all the other eggs in other pens are fine!!!!!! Just the birds that are penned seem to be doing this. Will give them more grit etc and see how it goesCheers Barry
Guest IB Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 If you are talking about birds eating eggshells after the youngsters have hatched, it's normal in my loft. I think its Natures way of making sure the minerals are recycled.
shasha Posted February 5, 2011 Author Report Posted February 5, 2011 no mate the birds were sitting for about 2weeks then they burst there eggs leaving them dry.
Guest IB Posted February 6, 2011 Report Posted February 6, 2011 no mate the birds were sitting for about 2weeks then they burst there eggs leaving them dry. After 14 days incubation, an egg would surely have an almost fully-formed youngster in it. With the yolk-sac still to be absorbed, IMO if the egg was broken the nest and the birds would be covered in yellowish-red bloody yolk. I have had it once, and its one mess.
Tony C Posted February 6, 2011 Report Posted February 6, 2011 Cant get my head round what your saying shasha. Eating eggs................. leaving them dry???? Is the embryo/chick missing, no trace of it in the nest?
shasha Posted February 7, 2011 Author Report Posted February 7, 2011 no m8 just shell .no chick or anythin so i dont no.
Guest shadow Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 sounds like vermin rat or mouse opening eggs not the birds you would see yolk or blood on the feathers if it was the birds
