DOVEScot Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 hi wot is best for putting on the floor of my loft when i get birds in... sawdust or sand?? and wot sort of trap as ive got bolt wires but read about open doors wat you all recon as im new to the sport only held my first pigeon yesterday so im starting to get the basics all help welcome thanks If you use sand it has to be dry, you can get kiln dried cheapest from Jewson or other builders merchants, do not use sawdust as it is too fine and will be blown about easily and harbours dampness as well, use shavings or coarser, easybed is a product you can buy or even wood chippings or bark We are going to try loft granuals for the first time as it seemed to work really well in Rembrants lofts
newboy Posted June 2, 2008 Author Report Posted June 2, 2008 thanks dovescot i think i will use sand thanks again 4 info :) all the ppl ive spoke to on here are very kind and helpfull thanks all

DOVEScot Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 thanks again iread a few books at th we and one said they put garden lime with the sand is that the same sort of stuff should i use lime or not thanks das :) I wouldn't put powered lime on the floor with sand, only a lime wash while cleaning the loft and then let it dry
Guest chrisss Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 thanks again iread a few books at th we and one said they put garden lime with the sand is that the same sort of stuff should i use lime or not thanks das :) no offence mate but they must be very old books, every one has his/hers idea but birchwood chipping are great ,last forever
pigeonscout Posted July 30, 2008 Report Posted July 30, 2008 The best thing for the floor is the scraper use it once aday.
Guest IB Posted July 30, 2008 Report Posted July 30, 2008 There is a lime in common use for loft floors and perches, Colombine sell it as 'parquet blanc' = floor white. It is good for keeping the loft fresh and free of pigeon smells, and being white, makes the place look really clean too. Use it sparingly daily after scraping out, brush it in as it tends to blow about.. Ordinary garden or agricultural lime does the same job at a fraction of the cost, and can be mixed with your sand too.
DOVEScot Posted July 30, 2008 Report Posted July 30, 2008 We have just started using loft granuals, Chickadee is not impressed, she is going back to scraping every day
sammy Posted July 30, 2008 Report Posted July 30, 2008 We have just started using loft granuals, Chickadee is not impressed, she is going back to scraping every day Well yi told me thats what yi keep her for scrapping out the lofts ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
DOVEScot Posted July 30, 2008 Report Posted July 30, 2008 Well yi told me thats what yi keep her for scrapping out the lofts ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Sammy, I couldnae cope if she went on strike, so I have to watch what I am saying, I offered to help the day but she says I make too much noise in the loft. What gave her that idea ;)
OLDYELLOW Posted July 30, 2008 Report Posted July 30, 2008 can use floor grills made from wood or can have a wiremesh floor with tray underneath or can use a scrapper twice a day or use deeplitter , most fanciers are using easybed , but i like hempcore , as for lime on floor i think your refering to columbine bianco floor white mainly used for show lofts. As for traps i suggest you get one where young birds can see out of a cage you can build or buy, these are known as sputniks

retired Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 I swear by Hemcore under my grills and in the stock loft - I am going to use hemcore on the floors next season for young birds rather than grills (experiment)
OLDYELLOW Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 been using it in al my lofts i wont be changing any day soon much easier
retired Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 been using it in al my lofts i wont be changing any day soon much easier It is good stuff thats for sure - I found a place local at £10 a bale also which is nearly £4 cheaper than the nearest 'Pigeon supplies' One bale has done my main 32ft loft under the grills and im sure there is enough there to do the 16ft loft if i decide to keep it.
Guest Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 Wheere is the place you get the hemcore from
retired Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 Wheere is the place you get the hemcore from When you come over i will take you there if you want its dead inbetween mine and Steve Stokers
