If you use sand it has to be dry, you can get kiln dried cheapest from Jewson or other builders merchants, do not use sawdust as it is too fine and will be blown about easily and harbours dampness as well, use shavings or coarser, easybed is a product you can buy or even wood chippings or bark :)

We are going to try loft granuals for the first time as it seemed to work really well in Rembrants lofts :)

I wouldn't put powered lime on the floor with sand, only a lime wash while cleaning the loft and then let it dry :)

There is a lime in common use for loft floors and perches, Colombine sell it as 'parquet blanc' = floor white. It is good for keeping the loft fresh and free of pigeon smells, and being white, makes the place look really clean too. Use it sparingly daily after scraping out, brush it in as it tends to blow about..

Ordinary garden or agricultural lime does the same job at a fraction of the cost, and can be mixed with your sand too.

Sammy, I couldnae cope if she went on strike, so I have to watch what I am saying, I offered to help the day but she says I make too much noise in the loft.

What gave her that idea  ;) ;) ;)

can use floor grills made from wood or can have a wiremesh floor with tray underneath or can use a scrapper twice a day or use deeplitter , most fanciers are using easybed , but i like hempcore , as for lime on floor i think your refering to columbine bianco floor white mainly used for show lofts. As for traps i suggest you get one where young birds can see out of a cage you can build or buy, these are known as sputniks

Tell you what makes me laugh, all these new starters find these chat sites. Took me ages to find out about them. So where in Cambridge are you NEWBOY, maybe able to get someone round to help you, which club are you in or intend to join

It is good stuff thats for sure - I found a place local at £10 a bale also which is nearly £4 cheaper than the nearest 'Pigeon supplies'

One bale has done my main 32ft loft under the grills and im sure there is enough there to do the 16ft loft if i decide to keep it.
