simple maths you say you have 3 cocks one hen and one more sex unknown well as i said if that be a hen you'l have a spare cock plus 2 pairs you could always keep spare cock in another section and after first round split and repair

Thought that myself up until 2 years ago. I had a pair of hens sitting 4 eggs that I did not expect to hatch, till I saw a wee head & neck reaching up from under the hen, wanting fed. All 4 eggs had been fertile.

 

Watched paired hens after that and noticed that they will solicit any cock in the loft, think it might be natures way of making sure nothing goes to waste.

thats true in a loft full but not if hens were on there own lol , but as you say have known spare hens to hatch there eggs as long as a cock present

add bowls and nesting material = they'll build nests = then mate then eggs will come it's nature thought you had just got them ??
