OLDYELLOW Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 why have a spare cock ?simple maths you say you have 3 cocks one hen and one more sex unknown well as i said if that be a hen you'l have a spare cock plus 2 pairs you could always keep spare cock in another section and after first round split and repair
Guest IB Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 two hens will tho but wont hatch Thought that myself up until 2 years ago. I had a pair of hens sitting 4 eggs that I did not expect to hatch, till I saw a wee head & neck reaching up from under the hen, wanting fed. All 4 eggs had been fertile. Watched paired hens after that and noticed that they will solicit any cock in the loft, think it might be natures way of making sure nothing goes to waste.
