I would do it when erected otherwise you will end up full of it when putting the loft up.

on my last loft used 1tub creote mixed with old engine oil from local garage aplied when erected every year with roller and tray.

wood was as good as new when dismantled. got one loft won in raffle in blackpool 22years ago treated same way put back up this summer that still like new

my father in laws old loft was done like that, it lasted forever,my "new"loft will be treated the same way,but how long does it take to dry with the oil in the mix?
