Hi,I am just starting out and I am converting a block shed shed with a pent roof.My plan is to get 3 or 4 pairs of stock birds to start off, just to see how I get along.I am thinking of having a stock section and a YB section to begin with.

The available space is 12' by 8'.My questions are how big should the stock section be?I will be putting in a corridor approx 2' wide along it and what will I need in the stock area. Will I just have nest boxes or will I need some perches also? Also I want to leave it big enough so I can add more stock birds if i require

My second question is ventilation.I can leave approx 4 inches open the full length of the shed just underneath the roof on front and rear.Is this Ok or is it overkill?

Thanks for the help guys.

vents in front at ground level and at back in top of roof you dont want air at roof level in front or you will create a draught rather than ventilation , to enable your planning of this loft perhaps a picture would help is the 12 ft rear or sides ????

12 ft at rear and I have 2 small doors to close up at front where I can put the vents in front.I think that solves one side of my question. Now the division of area.I will add pics once i recharge battery in camera!

well if was me i'd build two sets of boxes either 4 or 5 high at the back and then add your partion and corridor ( i would make the partion in such a way that it could be easily moved at a later date if you decide to increase the stock side / add another set of boxes ) i would also recommend an internal door of mesch so can leave the loft open in good weather also keeps rodents and small birds out , i look forward to your photos :)

put your nest boxes in first on the back and side wall if needed then put your partion in and leave the rest for ybs,i would not put perches in stock side not needed,

it depends how many stock birds ure planning on mate but i would try and make the yb's section bigger than the stock section try puting a tempery partition wall in to make a stock section around 4ft x 8ft to start then you have a 8ft x 8ft yb's section i would just have nest boxes in the stock shed and perches in the yb's section hope this helps mate
