Guest lvlasked Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 hey all i thought sod it so i brought a 10ft by 6ft shed today new one only cheap i want to go natural to start off just so i get use to the birds and learn from them what i want is ideas for the shed and maybe a trap design i could use a ets with and any other help that would be greatful
Guest IB Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 You'll probably have one section for breeding & racing, and the other for young birds. Start with paper, pencil & tape Work out: how many nest boxes will occupy space 'A' - the size of your boxes will be determined by the size & type of nest box fronts you decide to use; and how many perches will occupy space 'B' - again determined by size and type of perch you decide to use. That way you will know exactly what size to make "A" and "B" - your 2 sections - so that everything fits and there's no wasted space.
Guest lvlasked Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 i might get a differnt smaller shed for the racing birds but yer i could split it into 2 sections

bewted Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 first thing to think about is ventilation,,,thats priority in any shed with pigeons
Guest lvlasked Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 well on the front there be a cage time thing so air get in from there then im put 2 at the bottom of the shed at the front 2 at the back at the top and a couple on the sides i think
Guest lvlasked Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 nice ill look at some vents for my shed tehe also you no where i can get some designs for traps ect
Guest lvlasked Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 would a SPUTNIK - STANDARD HIGH from taylors choice be ok for when i get a est trap and where would i put the ets map in it ?
sapper756 Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 would a SPUTNIK - STANDARD HIGH from taylors choice be ok for when i get a est trap and where would i put the ets map in it ? Have had a look at this sputnik, you would have to build a false floor under the original floor to store the ets pad, that is how I have done it with my sputnikhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif
Guest lvlasked Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 nice one easy to do then ? and sounds like a plan its only £50 so its kinda cheap i think tehe
Guest lvlasked Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 the shed im gettin a overlap for i was thinking should i line the insides of it with hardboard ?
OLDYELLOW Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 the shed im gettin a overlap for i was thinking should i line the insides of it with hardboard ?no point in lining it unless going to insulate it with polysyrene however timber with joins in can leak if can afford it id put upvc cladding round loft keep it waterproof and looking good for many years and will save painting it every year
Guest lvlasked Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 i dont mind painting it lol just it bein overlaped i thought it be kinda be hard cleaning the birds crap off it lol ?? so maybe it might need doing ?
Guest lvlasked Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 ??????????/ come on people talk lmao sheds here tomoz
Guest Owen Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 To be honest the ventilation on the loft in the photo is not good enough. You need a 2 to 4 inch gap all around the top of a loft like that, and there should be a ventilator down near the floor. The lower one should be controlable by fitting a flap or door to enable adjustments to be made.I know a lot of people like Sputnics and Stall traps but I do not rate either. I like have the kind landing board that folds up out of the way so that there is nowhere for birds to land until I say they can land. The quickest way I have trapped is by using a landing board followed by bobwires leading to another landing board inside the loft about 2" lower than the outside one and fitted with a slightly raised rim like a tray. This inside board needs to be about the height of your lower chest. The idea is to feed the birds on the inside board and you can just lift them to take the ring off and they will carry on eating with the others. I saw this idea in Belgium and I was very impressed at the speed the guy could get the birds in and pick them up.
Guest lvlasked Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 could you get me some photos of your trap so i could have a look please ?

Guest lvlasked Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 tehe i almost got them my self im just tired haha what you think so far of it lol ?
Guest lvlasked Posted October 17, 2010 Report Posted October 17, 2010 i got my felt on the roof now tehe and i got my nest bowls and nest fronts from taylors great people they are tehe just need chipboard to build the nests now haha
Guest bakes Posted October 17, 2010 Report Posted October 17, 2010 nice i would fill the corners with filler and underneath the windows as no rain can get under there and start to rot the wood on widowsils also i would put 3 louvers at front and 3 at back so theres a constant air flow going into your new loft if you are keeping it the full size and not section it off i would fit an sputnik centre so the birds will be able to trap back into loft if you section it off two sputniks both sides me personally would also mesh the other windows from the inside as when you got birds in there you dont wont them keep on flying into the window as it will damage there flights and so on but all the best looks a nice loft be good to see wonce you have put everythink in and all the best when you get some birds in there
Guest bakes Posted October 17, 2010 Report Posted October 17, 2010 also a saftey door so you can keep the door open all day and still have the loft secure just a standard wooden door frame with small mesh also then you be getting more air into the loft all the best
