It depends on what you mean by training. If you mean the business of loading the birds into a vehicle and releasing them somewhere to fly home, I doubt if that sort of thing is of much value to the birds or their owner during the winter months.

If, on the other hand, you mean letting them take exercise and making sure that they trap into the loft properly, I think that is an essential part of their education. However, while the big moult is in progress, I think the birds should be given as little stress as possible. The main thing now is to make sure that the birds are fed well without letting them build up the fat.
