i would recomend having it straight on the ground(stops mice and other vermin nesting underneath), 2x2 framework or thicker. if building it is what you want to do allthough i would recomend buying one, the souring proce o fwood and everything else will make it very expensive. i know this because i work in the industry. wish u the best of look. :) :) :)

having it on the ground will encourage rats and mice TO nest under it not stop them get it up off the ground to allow airflow and you can see under and if you have a dog let it get under

I like the designs of some of the American Lofts that are pictured on the web site for the Gulf Coast Pigeon Club, Florida. I am particularly taken by some of the ventilation sytems. I also like the trapping ideas they have, because I know that trapping is a big part of their racing and they are very good at it. Roof design is also vital. If you are building from scratch, you have the opportunity to build a really good roof that takes the bad air away quickly. Pigeon health is at least 80% about air movement, in my opinion. Get that right and you will have healthy pigeons that will give you very little worry later.

If, as I suspect, you will do what most of us do, and build in wood, make sure you paint it thoroughly. Wood absorbs damp, as you know, and anything you can do to reduce the risk of damp is bound to be good.

Look at recycled wood. Marine plywood sheets will give a simpler & much quicker build than timber boards.

Raise the loft off the ground, but mesh it off so that nothing can get underneath the loft, and keep the area clear. With under-ventilation you might consider floor ventilators to take advantage of that air flow and direct it upwards through the loft. Under eaves ventilators along top of back and front walls will draw it up & out.
