blackdog Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 hi mate, my main racing loft is 24 by 6, 4 sections, i have 12 up and over nest boxes in 2 of the sections so you will have ample room
wings Posted September 27, 2009 Author Report Posted September 27, 2009 Hi Fifer and Blackdog thanks for the replies i thought i might have enough just needed confermation from the more experianced, Cheers
pjc Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 all sounds good, 4 sections is about right, 1 for cocks, 1 for hens, 1 for yb's and 1 for stock. More are always useful but end up getting filled with birds!
ritchie1 Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 thats what i have my first year now i need the 4 sections for old race birds two sections for them two sections for the young birds so i had two build another section for stock birds and another for young birds for next year
marmite Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 then u end up like me with a 50 odd foot loft and not enough time to keep it all clean so keep bird nos down m8
ritchie1 Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 50 birds is a fine number to be racing with next year 8 pair for the national races and 17 pair for my club races next year just fine for my set up
fletch Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 same as our widdowood loft mate 4 sections 8 pairs in 3 sections and 1 section is for the widoowood hens
Guest southern and mason Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 then u end up like me with a 50 odd foot loft and not enough time to keep it all clean so keep bird nos down m8 then u end up lyk me wit a 90 ft loft
wilkins Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 thats what i have my first year now i need the 4 sections for old race birds two sections for them two sections for the young birds so i had two build another section for stock birds and another for young birds for next year i wouldnt worry about stock for now i would buy late ones get them flying out ,train to 10 miles over the winter breed 2 rounds then race them the following year, with the ybs you breed in 2010 and the original late breds you should have plenty of there blood in the loft time you breed off them and what will yearling in 2011 i think to many stock birds are kept by most fanciers
