Guest mick bowler Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 the only peregrine bother i have witnessed was at my own loft as mentioned earlier, but percy was only interested in the odd young bird not flying with the pack, and it eventually did single one out and strike away with it... not once did it bother the pack nor did the pack seem to bother either, apart from gaining some height. agree it probabaly would scatter a team of birds training, wots the average team these days 50-70 young birds, but couldnt seen it having that effect on a convoy of 1500 upwards? has anyone witnesssed a strike on a convoy? if so what happened? I witnessed it twice, once when we are the lib in Portland and once from a distance. The lib we were at the Percy knew what was going on, i swear as soon a they started to cut the strings 4 appeared over head. I think they libbed 2000-3000 birds, they came out in the usual swathe, and then there was just what can only be described as pandemonium, as the first of the percy made for a successful strike. The birds coming from the transporter knew what was happening and a lot even refused to exit the transporter. We had seen many libs at Weymouth and other places and usually the birds come out in the usual swathe and vanish in seconds. In this case what birds that did come out just tryed to get height right where we were and were being "scythed" apart by the other percies. Gradually the groups of 100's became groups of tens, until they had what they wanted an dissappeared. Birds were everywhere, in tree's, bushes, under cars in the car park, on the transporter and the other transporters. we helped move them and and clear the baskets, but there were still birds going half an hour later. The lib from a distance, was slightly different, and the birds had all exited and were gaining height and bearings when 2 dots appeared and again just "scythed" thru them. This time we saw maybe 3, 4 or more tumbling from the sky injured, obviously the male, apparently his hunting technique, hit as many as he can and then takes the pickings. within seconds they had gone and pigeons vanished.
