nickiclark Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 how can you tell if the eggs have chicks in them?
PIGEON_MAN Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 Hold um up to the light after about a week, they will start to go a darker colour inside,if you can still see through them they are no good.
Daisymay Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 Shine a torch through them (it's called candling)at 4/5 day's old you should clearly see viens running through the egg if not then the egg is no good.personally I do this with every egg laid in the shed.you can bin eggs that are no good and also swap eggs over to make up clutches ,but only if you are spot on with your timing.
WilliamJones Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 Yeah, candling works a treat! I try and do it for all my new eggs too because sometimes you notice cracks / damage to them that needs repairing.
