pjc Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 hi,folks im after some ideas how i can convert my 5 hole wooden stall trap into a ets trap. remove the levers/locking bars underneath and make a shelf under the existing bottom shelf to put the ets pad between the 2 layers, job done
PIGEON_MAN Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 remove the levers/locking bars underneath and make a shelf under the existing bottom shelf to put the ets pad between the 2 layers, job done I did the above but extended the shelf to the end of the trap and then fitted bob wires to stop other birds in the loft comming into where the birds trap, they can still get underneath the shelf but it doesnt interfere with any birds that are trapping.
Guest Owen Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 I do not understand why you want a trap of any sort for ETS. All traps ever do is slow the birds down when you want to speed them up. I trap straight through the open window and onto the pad which is on the floor in the corridor. It is situated outside a sliding door in which I have fitted bolt wires. If I have a bird with someone who has a sputnic or stall trap type of trap they can forget it. I would beat them every time. As far as I am concerned, birds do not like going into the shade or the dark after becoming wound up from flying. And it is no use having them home, only to fly around when they get there. With the open window or door the birds can see where they want to land and are confident enough to drop straight in. It is much the same when you have those little landing boards. The birds need to get used to all landing at once. If they get the idea that they may have to fly around because there may not be enough room to land they will make it a habit. A habit you can do without, especially on a race day.
