In my young bird team I have 4 or 5 youngsters who have returned from training nextday or later, but appear to be well down and flown out, what do members recomend how these birds are treated?

I am just allowing them to rest at present with plenty warm bathshttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif

funny this thread has come up

my dad is the one with the pigeons, but ive a keen enough interest in it

he only bought some birds recently from a chap here in Ireland who wins his fair share of races, and he was saying to my dad he only trains his birds twice, or at a push 3 times per week, never anymore

he reckons it burns them out

my dad is in his first year of racing pigeons, and has been training his every day bar friday

and only last week he got one of his birds home late from a race, and the little bugger was so tired, he couldnt even tuck his wings into his body, he literally dragged them through the stall trap

since last saturday, its after taken him until pretty much today (saturday) to return to some what normal

i wonder if 4/5 days a week training is too much for them?

you wouldnt see a marathon runner out running every day coming up to a big race,

its food for thought isnt it

had a bird reported in eastbourne totally flown out went to pick it up and you could have shaved with it been back in box nearly a fortnight now the 1st week i kept it with my old birds who have corn at them all the time then put it with the yb's now flying out again although not fully back to its original fitness it will still fly for an hour

If you train hard you need to feed heavy and keep it regular. Treat them like a human in some ways. To do heavy work they need to be happy doing it, so need the right supplements, ie food, titbits, vitamins. I,m not a believer in birds being burnt out just exercising, they should be enjoying their time out of he loft, so something must be amiss. Might be something hanging about them or their motivation has gone if indeed it was there in the first place. TLC brian, your the right man for the task lol This is only my opinion off course.
