Mark E Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Recently wanted to buy some " beginner " pigeon books. Looked on a well known online book shop and fancied one by David Glover " Racing Pigeons " Anyway £16 odd. Thought my local library would'nt have any pigeon books, but checked online and found the book I wanted above and another one on order. RESULT Saved myself £16 odd and looking forward to reading it
just ask me Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 great find mate any advice lads on what are the best books for beginners I'm unsure to be honest
Mark E Posted July 20, 2010 Author Report Posted July 20, 2010 Other members say " Widowhood " is good, but my research shows it quite an old book, with an american view on pigeons. I think
just ask me Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 a lot of members like to read Dave allen's widowhood year British author
JohnQuinn Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Alf Baker's book Winning Naturally is a great read, maybe old fashioned but still some very good insights to how he motivated his doos. Even if a non fancier picked it up they would grasp the man's methods.
Guest IB Posted July 21, 2010 Report Posted July 21, 2010 Agree with the first post, try your local library first for pigeon books. Goldmine. For example the very first 'substantial' book I read as a teenager in the 60's was Leon Whitney's 'Keep your pigeons flying' and although dated, my local library has a copy of that and 'The Pigeon' by Wendell Levi, also dated, also a classic, but still available to buy at £80! and a book by one of Scotland's all-time great fanciers, Dr Anderson of Armadale, a classic (donated to the library by one of us fanciers, so if you have a book at home, think about the future generations of pigeon fanciers to come, and donate it to your local library). For a beginner, I think David? Neilson-Hutton's (the Major's son) paperback 'The Racing Pigeon' priced around £6 is really good. It's now out of print too, but I first came across it in our library. Started to read John Clement's 'The Long Distance Pigeon' this year, also from our library. As I said, can be a goldmine and save you a few ££s.
