I just want to say a huge thank you to Stuart Maskame (blue tooner) for his hospitality today. My day started at 4.15am when i left Lochgelly to take a trip up to the home of Stuart and a certain Maverick. I travelled on my motorbike and in just over 2 hours i was greeted by Stuart and Chris Donaldson. After a chat the fry up was under way courtesy of Stuart, and was well polished off. The anticipation of national birds clocking in was at times overwhelming. A certain Maverick was on a mission to win a silver award having been timed in on 2 previous over the water nationals. The day was wearing on and my host decided to take a break from the loft to go and get fags. Yes folks you guessed it........ our star of the day timed in 30 seconds after we left. We missed Maverick coming home, but and a big but, to see him in the loft on our return was absolutely brilliant. I was also able to see some of stuarts pigeons arrive from the fed race from consett. At 2.30pm i started my trip back down the road going via Monifieth where my mum and dad are holidaying at the caravan site, arriving home at 6pm. All in all it has been a great day out, thanks again stuart.

Is it fair for a pigeon who times in on the national result 3 times from over the water, doesn't get recognition for it in the way of a silver award? and the mileage covered is in the region of 2000 miles (x3 650 miles). That's what happened to oor Maverick? Surely this pigeon and others deserve more recognition, in a fairer way???

Glad you enjoyed your day Alex. ;) enjoyed your company and made Gold cup day a great day for me. The thrill of timing in from the Gold Cup is second to none and Maverick has given me this buzz 3 years on the trot and as of now is retired to stock to enjoy himself. Any pigeon fancier who is serious about racing his birds must strive to get involved in flying in the nationals as there is no better feeling in pigeon racing than seeing a bird fold it's wings from a national race, regardless of where you end up on the result. Disappointed that he didn't gain his silver award but will just have to move on and look forward to the next national, roll on Ypres. Well done to all who had the buzz of timing in from the gold cup and comiserations to those who didn't, hang in there your time will come ;)
