travis Posted June 12, 2010 Report Posted June 12, 2010 Hi All, when would latebreds be too late? Im looking to start racing 2011 and had always thought get a team of YBs bought in March ish 2011. An option is to get latebreds now and breed from them myself 2011? Due to my loft being built I probably could not get the late breds till 1st week of August, is this too late? All thoughts welcome please, thanks!
THE FIFER Posted June 12, 2010 Report Posted June 12, 2010 a bit late m8, also could be difficult to get latebreds 2010 to breed now, depends how late, better getting some latebreds and breed from them 2011 and race youngbirds then,
travis Posted June 12, 2010 Author Report Posted June 12, 2010 sorry fifer dont think i explained myself. my decision is, do i get latebreds this year (august when loft is sorted) then breed of these latebreds in 2011. or do i hold off and start off with a draft of YBs in spring 2011?
geordie1234 Posted June 12, 2010 Report Posted June 12, 2010 mate im getting my late breds in a month or two and im going to be taking ybs of them for racing next season thats came from top flyers in scotland so thats what im sticking
travis Posted June 13, 2010 Author Report Posted June 13, 2010 Thanks Geo, i think its just the fact that come next year i might be breeding off 7 month old birds worries me a bit. Good to know experienced fanciers are saying thats ok though

travis Posted June 13, 2010 Author Report Posted June 13, 2010 If i go ahead with it about a dozen i think, top local flyer offering me some. Just got to weigh up me options!! Also i aint going to have loads of room so looking ahead a couple of years these latebreds (by then only lightly raced if im lucky) will be taking up a dozen boxes? Its tricky, i just want to get my pigeons tho!!!!!!
