Guest Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 Hi, Ladywhite, sorry your question seems to have been missed. All pigeons need to have a bath at least once a week. Any shallow basin will do, plain ordinary cold tap water. The bird will hop in and bathe itself.
Peckedhen Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 Even when it is so cold? I offered mine a bath but they didn't take one. :-/
Guest speckled Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 All pigeons should bathe.peckedhen, mine love it, thay have a bath at the moment, once a week like bruno said, but during breeding thay tend to bathe more. More so thay love it in the rain, have trouble getting them in sometimes, sitting on the roof with there winds spead, loving it. Speckled.
THE FIFER Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 TRY THEM WHEN ITS DAMP OR RAINING, NOT THE BEST TIME BUT THEY WILL JUMP IN THE BATH,
westy Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 i have bred a grizzle this year SORRY NOT A VERY GOOD PICTURE
peterpau Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 Blimey you lot are realy into colour why not just keep bringing in new young birds every year till you hit on the ones that suit you. I've got some lovely grizzle's from a Belgian national winning loft and they came well as young birds last year picking up cards on the way

Guest Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 If it helps I have two grizzle hens in the stock loft - one Kirkpatrick (see attached) the other a lionheart and they are both paired to blues this year. All the youngsters have turned out to be grizzles. The one in the picture has bred every bird to be a grizzle apart from a pure white hen which has been one of my most consistent channel racers. The white hen has been in the first two pigeons home from nine individual BICC Nationals and her best result being 19th Open San Sebastian London and southeast Classic club. I tell my dad she is chased by hawks all the way home.
westy Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 she are lovly darren the young 1 i got is crossed kirkpatric and putman.
Guest beautyhomer Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 Darren, Going from the photo your hen appears to be homozygos for grizzle ie she has two grizzle genes. Therefore all her young will be grizzles. The white hen she bred will also be carrying grizzle but it is masked by the white.
Guest Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 Thanks for that homer.. Is grizzle dominant to every colour then? Would she produce anything other than grizzle with any other colour pairing??
Chatrace Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 What would you call this color. I called a my hawk Cross :-)
westy Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 SNAKE SKIN I WOULD BUT HAWK CROSS IS A GOOD ONE
Guest beautyhomer Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 Most probably it is a Recessive Opal. However Indigo can give a similar apperance, but as this is a dominant gene it can be easily tested by pairing to a blue.
RoryTheRed Posted January 3, 2007 Report Posted January 3, 2007 What colours can i get from a Red splashed cock and a grizzle hen?
Guest beautyhomer Posted January 3, 2007 Report Posted January 3, 2007 Is the grizzle a red or a blue? Personally I would not pair these together because it will affect the quality of any young grizzles produced.
Ronnie Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 my head hurts. So ive got a mealy that looks like it has grizzle in him(Looks just like what jimmy said a dirty mealy) , ive paired him with a dark check hen so should i get grizzles of that pairing .(Thats what i was hoping for). The mealy's nest mate is also a cock and looks like the twin i can only tell them apart by looking at the ring number. He is a staf van reet from the red daniel lines so there is a lot of reds in his pedigree dunno if that's relevant.
Guest beautyhomer Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 What were the parents of the mealy cock? If neither of them were grizzle then the mealy cannot be.I would not pair him to a checker anyway as cheq grizzles are no where near as atractive as bar grizzles.Do you have a photo of him?
Ronnie Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 i'm not sure what the parents where as i bought them as young birds from doncaster last year.I will get a pic up later
