my saddest day was

when me and my grandad flew in our first young bird race again when i was 13years old (1983).we won the race so i got on my bike straight to my grandad's house to tell him we had won,our delight was short lived when the secretary phoned the next day to say the race was declared void because a crate of pigeons were found in the marking shed which hadnt gone to the race point.

the race was declared void at a subsequent meeting

my sadest moment was in 2000, i bred 50 y. birds and sent them all to the first race, i lost them all and didn't even get a feather reported. :(

Racing from Exmouth.  I sent 13 got 12 lost one.  He was the cock that had won Le Ferte Bernard twice in three weeks the only pigeon I sent.  He didn't make it this day and I was talked into sending him by my brothers.  Still miss him.

it's always a sad day for me to loose any pigeon, whether it's a top breeder or just a young bird

I LOST A COCK LAST YEAR THAT HAD 8X1ST CLUBS AND 3X1ST  1X2ND 2X 3RD FED AS WELL AS 12 OTHER CARDS IN THE FIRST 20.HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION AND REPORTED DEAD  THE DAY AFTER THE RACE.SAD BUT A FACTOR IN RACING THAT IF YOU DONT SEND YOUR BEST YOU WONT WIN.

i would say last year training the ybs i lost 1 that one the club and then lost another one that was 3rd club a week later but i suppose you take that chance everytime you put them in the basket

my two saddest are my best young bird of last year taken off the loft yesterday, found it 100 yards away half eaten but just alive hiding in bushes(had to cull it too far gone) next one was a cock that won the fed at 250 miles, then the next year was 2nd fed at the same race point, gave him one last race at 350 miles before stocking him, only bird not to return never seen him since

number 80...winner of 1st section 8th open CSCFC, winning £1200 + a colour TV, 2x1st clubs, 2x2nd clubs plus other position in the NFC and CSCFC in 2002. In 2003 she flew the nantes NFC and was late back about 4pm in the afternoon.

i went in the loft on the monday morning( as NFC was a hold over til sunday) picked her off the floor as she did not look well about 5 mins later she died in my hands.

buried her in the garden next to the loft.

A rat got into the loft and decided to take some eggs, one hen wasnt having any and ended up having her eye taken out by the rat. She was also brain damaged by it and when I found her the next morning she was in a sorry state. Sorry I didnt get there sooner :(:(

I think my saddest pigeon memory was a yb I had reared as a baby was out loft flying and got taken by a hawk he had no races or diplomas but he was my buddy he would come out of flock and fly by me or land on me while I mixed food and he would ride on me while I walked around farm I only foster babys to other nests now as I was so torn up about it
