Guest jason Posted February 19, 2006 Report Posted February 19, 2006 i've just been reading up on winning dietry for racing pigeons and it says you should bake the corn in the oven for half an hour, to remove all the moisture, before you let it cool and give to the birds does anybody do this?
Chatrace Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 Now days most corn is dried before bagging so it wouldn't need to be done. If it was popcorn you could be in trouble :-)
Guest slugmonkey Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 Heat destroys nutrition it alters more than moisture content I feed grain straight from field when I can get it heat ruins vitamin content of most foods
zetlandlad999 Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 Read a while ago that the Old Timers, used to put a tray of corn in the oven after the wife had cooked Sunday roast, then fed to the birds, corn may have had a bigger moisture content then. would work well with Barley, home malting.
jimmy white Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 ;D mind you if it was baked beans, it would be ok for a blow home ;D
Diamond dave Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 Nice one jimmy The best beans for cooking are uman beans!!! Heating the corn is ok to make a cake for the birds - but use smaller seed food and use it as a treat.
