Ian McKay Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 Hi Is there anyone out there who can tell me what is the best food to feed Westys for flying ;) Can anyone tell me how old they have to be before they start to tumble ;D ;D
Wiley Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 I know the old country and westys used to eat cold beans, and used to tumble as soon as they left the Saloon! ;D ;D ;D :P ;D
Ian McKay Posted June 26, 2007 Author Report Posted June 26, 2007 I knew I laid myself open to this but did not expect you to be first :P :P
west of englands Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 i have had some westys for about a year now and mine dont tumbler and i have been talking to loads of people that have got westy and they all said that they dont tumbler like they used to because people breeding them just for showing and not for flying
Ian McKay Posted June 26, 2007 Author Report Posted June 26, 2007 OK Wiley Will let you off this time
Ian McKay Posted June 26, 2007 Author Report Posted June 26, 2007 I thought I had got what I wanted But tumblerless tumblers whats the point ;D ;D ;D
nipper Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 If you tie the left wing to the right b$$lock, and then launch it off the loft, I bet it will tumble for you !!!! ;D ;D Country westy pigeons !!! I like that one !!! lololo
Clarkey1990 Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 Irish flying tumblers are the, imo, the best tumblers around at the moment.
Ian McKay Posted June 26, 2007 Author Report Posted June 26, 2007 Hi Lee Hope you sent me some and had a word with them lol ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Clarkey1990 Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 Ian, Asked one of the local lads about the food for flying tumblers as he flys irsh ft's. He said anyone he asked and he himself uses 3 parts peas 2 parts wheat 1 part maize Increase quantity in the winter and also increase the amount of peas.
Adam Gray Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 Go and buy a depuritive mix - wheat, barley, red/white dari, buy it already mixed various brands sell it. This will take any excess weight of them, every now or again a handful of condition of mixed canary seed will go down well. Fly them regular every day if they will do it and you might start to see some better performances even tumbles. If your that keen on them you have two choices - find someone who has genuine WOE flying tumblers (not many about these days) or cross something in to them like a good quality well marked Iranian Tumbler or Turkish Mardin Tumbler then try and bring that tumbling into the wests - I will take you a good few years and is hit and miss if it will work.
DOVEScot Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 We used to have Birmingham rollers on a depuritive mix ect, were great rollers. sold them to another guy and he said they never rolled as good so their must be something in correcting the diet

ally mac Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 I had a pair of wests a few years ago. I had them for about a year and never saw any tumbels except for 1 week when the cock did a few flips whenever he was out. I tried everything with the feed and could nvere get him to do it again. It might still be in some of them if you can coax it out. Like someone said though, an awful lot of them are bred for show and most probably nver fly out. Al.

I also think you need a decent kit to start with and like all pigeon habits, the young would learn to copy, even though it is natural to them I still think they learn more by mimicing older birds:-/
ally mac Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 I think you are right to a certain extent. A kit of rollers will stimulate each other into breaks. But I flew my wests with the roller kit and it never made any difference. Al.
Steve0 Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 Are they flying wests or the big daft show type? Steve0... Another ruined breed!
ally mac Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 Hi Steve. The ones I had were the first pigeons I got, they were show birds from John Stark but I got them for flying out. let me know if you get anywhere with your pal and the other birds. Cheers. Al.
