Guest Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 Snippet on BBC News24 today, following news conference in Perth: Should there be no further instances of H5N1 found within the quarantine zone from 30 days following the find of the dead infected swan on 31st March, then the current zones (and their restrictions) will be ended.
Guest Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 now they say birds can be let out Good news. Before you posted this info, was wondering how affected fanciers would be able to get their birds in condition for the first race, planned for the end of this month. Assuming (hoping) that the zone restrictions will be ended in 30 days, that means that affected fanciers would miss the first race as their first 'normal' day would be Monday 1st May, and their 'first' race would be on Saturday 6th May, a week later than planned. If all goes well, and I for one have everything 'crossed' that it does, not a bad outcome for those affected considering whats happened.
Guest Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 i'm in the wild bird area zone--yesterday was told not to let the birds out--- today told its ok to let them out :-/ no club sale next week
Guest Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 i'm in the wild bird area zone--yesterday was told not to let the birds out--- today told its ok to let them out :-/ no club sale next week Heloo again. ;D Wondered if 'one of our cheps on the ground' would fill us in as to what we might expect if we find ourselves in a wild bird Zone, Clockie. You say you were told? Told by whom and what other restrictions are there?
jimmy white Posted April 8, 2006 Author Report Posted April 8, 2006 the birds tested up to now anyway,,have all proved negative for h5n1, but still a lot of testing to do
jimmy white Posted April 8, 2006 Author Report Posted April 8, 2006 ive read and listened to all on his bird flu,,,,,but something, dont ask me what, doesnt seem to strike the right cord,,,theres seems to be one hell of a lot of coincidences,,the swan , the way it was found , the time defra took, the bird being torn apart by other birds, not one other bird infected [up to now anyway]it was 8 days before we found out , it had lay dead before that for24 hours before anyone came after being reported, it had been dead a while before that, i dont know ,maybe its just me, but something rings strange about it, i cant put my finger on it, but its been bugging me for a couple of days now, maybe i shouldnt have put this post on,, but i have a strange gut feeling about this, and i dont know what it is,,it was also found the day the government done the" trial run"theres a lot of this that sounds odd to me, but then again maybe thats just me.
deeman Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 Hi All was on the phone to AHDO perth on saturday was told keep birds in no free flying
Guest Silverwings Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 My thourghts too jimmy ,someone looks lik they stand to make a lot of money from this ? just like the profits from the P.M.V Vaccine over the last 20 years or more.......??????????????
Guest Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 it was the vet in perth that told our fed sec lofts south of the A90 to keep the birds in,i am on the south side. lofts north of the A90 were ok to let them out,i am only 5o feet away from the north side, but then the shu said its ok to let them out untill further notice.
dandydoo Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 In the following “other captive birds” refers to - a bird kept in captivity which is not poultry and includes a bird kept for shows, races, exhibitions, competitions, breeding or sale; i.e. this includes racing and fancy pigeons. Bird Movement No person may move poultry or other captive birds from premises in a Wild Bird Protection Zone except under the authority of a licence granted by a veterinary inspector or an inspector acting at the direction of a veterinary inspector. No person may move poultry or other captive birds in to or out of a wild bird protection zone.Except where: the movement is through the zone on a major highway or railway if no stop is made within the zone. Gathering of Birds No person may permit any poultry or other captive birds to be collected together in a wild bird protection zone at any fair, market, show or other gathering. Biosecurity Measures This Schedule applies in respect of premises where poultry or other captive birds are kept: poultry and other captive birds must be housed where possible, and if this is impractical, isolated in such a way as to minimise contact with wild birds The occupier must provide and maintain means of disinfection at the entrances and exits of the premises and any buildings on the premises housing poultry or other captive birds. A person entering or leaving premises: must cleanse their hands must not wear clothing which is visibly soiled with mud, droppings, animal or bird faeces, or any similar matter; and must cleanse and disinfect the outer surfaces of his footwear in accordance with the directions of an inspector. Time Scale for Restrictions An area shall remain a wild bird protection zone until: the Scottish Ministers amend the declaration ~ so that the area within its boundaries becomes part of the wild bird surveillance zone; or the Scottish Ministers revoke the declaration. For me, this means no racing, cant mark birds as this is a gathering No YB sales in all of Fife to Edinburgh and Dundee as per the wild Bird Zone. Dont know how that would place birds going over Fife on direct flight path like the North Road. How are the Two diffrent Feds in Fife dealing with this
westy Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 lets just hope it has not srpeaded and that the pigeons will continue to be allowed out .
Guest WINGS 04 Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 My thoughts too jimmy ,someone looks like they stand to make a lot of money from this ? just like the profits from the P.M.V Vaccine over the last 20 years or more.......?????????????? SILVERWINGS I THINK YOU ARE SPOT ON WITH THIS AS IT WOULD NOT BE THE FIRST TIME THE GOVERMENT HAS DONE THIS I CAN THINK WHEN THEY DONE IT WITH THE SALMANELLA IN EGGS IT WAS JUST TO GET US NOT TO SEE WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO DO YOU CAN BET THAT THERE IS SOME PARLIMENT ACT PAST IN THE NEXT WEEK OR TWO OR THERE WILL BE SOME MORE PRICES GOING UP AS FUEL HAS GONE UP ANOTHER 4P IN THE LAST WEEK WITHOUT ANY ONE SAYING ANYTHING IN THE NEWS JUST MY THOUGHTS ON IT ALL
Guest Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 SEEMS MAD I'M IN THE WILD BIRD ZONE SO I CAN'T TRAIN MY BIRDS. IF MY LOFT WAS OVER THE KINGSWAY (A90) 30 YARDS AWAY I COULD. LOFTS NORTH OF ME CAN TRAIN THEIR BIRDS FROM THE WEST AND STILL FLY OTHER MY LOFT.
LADYBIRD Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 JUST HOPE THEY DO NOT FIND ANY MORE WITH IT . I AM LIKE A FEW OTHERS ON HERE SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT ABOUT THIS AS SEAGULLS WERE SEEN TO BE EATING ON THE DEAD SWAN WERE ARE THEY ANYBODY KNOW HOW LONG IT TAKES TO APPEAR AFTER FIRST CONTACT AS THIS MIGHT GIVE US AN IDEA WHEN TO EXPECT THE NEXTOUT BURST.
Guest Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 Wondering here if someone in "HIGH PLACES" has shares in the company who make Tamiflu
Guest Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 I think the posts on 'conspiracy' couldn't be more wrong. Nobody but nobody wants Avian flu here, least of all the poultry industry. You are talking about £110m for Scotland and £3bn for UK as a whole, annually. In addition to losing that income you're faced with the additional costs of policing the outbreak and stamping out the disease THEN you've to compensate and restock all these farms AND convince your customers to eat poultry AND convince the rest of the world that you're AI-free before they start buying again ... by which time some b'stard's stolen your market anyway. Its basically a waiting game now. No idea what the incubation time is for this virus, but we've 30 days from 30th March to find out ..... And my opinion about the way the thing was handled is no different from my feelings about the whole surviellence thing from the start ... barehanded wild fowlers with dogs out testing water fowl, expecting members of the public to phone in about dead birds ... the UK governments basically didn't expect in their wildest dreams to find H5N1 here in the UK ..
Guest Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 Here’s a timeline for the AI outbreaks in Germany, Switzerland and Denmark. Don’t know if they are typical but may give us some idea to go on : e.g. time from 1st find to the next one, and numbers of birds in each find. Germany – started 8th Feb with 2 swans and 1 goshawk. No further report filed until 17th March, when birds confirmed with AI found at several locations in following numbers: 5,1,3,1,1,1,1,1,1,1. On 1st March – cat; On 6th April – spread to poultry - a turkey farm. Switzerland – started 26th Feb with 2 goosanders. Next: 2nd March, 1 duck, 1 coot. Denmark – started 12th March with 1 buzzard found on a beach. Next: 15th March (15), 17th (1), 18th (3) 19th (1) 20th (2) 22nd (1).
jimmy white Posted April 9, 2006 Author Report Posted April 9, 2006 i agree with bruno ,,,,its basicly a waiting game,,,,,but if theres no more reports of avian flu, in the near future,,,,i fear something very odd is going on. i hope im wrong
THE FIFER Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 THE 3KM PROTECTION ZONE AROUND CELLARDYKE COULD BE LIFTED AS SOON AS APRIL 20TH, IF NO OTHER CASES ARE CONFIRMED, THE 10KM SURVEILLANCE ZONE COULD BE REMOVED AFTER 30 DAYS, CROWS, MAGPIES, PREDATORY BIRDS AND WATERFOWL ARE UNDER OBSERVATION.
