T_T Posted April 24, 2006 Report Posted April 24, 2006 Another alternative. Get yourself a paint gun, the ones the kids use. Rattle the cat with a paint bullet from that and you won't see it again. It won't do any lasting damage to the cat but it will serve it's memory well.
Guest Posted April 24, 2006 Report Posted April 24, 2006 Donal, If anyone wants to keep a cat that's there right, just as long as they keep it under control and away from my property, fish and birds. Lets hear your suggestions on how to keep a moggie away from a 20,000 gallon Koi pond!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guest Posted April 24, 2006 Report Posted April 24, 2006 I have two cats that are kept indoors in my conservatory and they have a little pen they can go into to do their business etc. This seems to keep them away from my pigeons which are kept only 20ft away from the cats LOL
Guest Posted April 24, 2006 Report Posted April 24, 2006 There are two things you can do to humainly get rid of the cat problem. 1) throw a bucket of water at it when it comes back and it will never come back. 2) put some orange peels on your trap, cats hate the smell of them and wont go anywhere near them. ok i know what you are trying to say, but do they humainly kill pigeons?, i can understand everyones anger, because like me and many others on this forum weve had many birds killed (potential winners and so on), and all i can see is that any one with cats may argue against it, and people that dont know how it feels WILL KNOW AS SOON AS IT HAPPENS TO THEM!!!. cats dont just attack in your loft they attack you young birds like when they are on the floor having a bath, or if they are unable to fly. and trust me they would not have the same opinion if they see there pride and joy (some people will just quote me on this and say stupid s*** like ''cats are my pride and joy'' and so on) like i was saying there pride and joy and maybe young birds theve worked so hard to get right or a certain pigeon of a could pair ripped to shreads by a cat. so at the end of the day you can make your loft cat proof, but they will always get your birds 1 way or another... and if it comes down to these types of arguments you could just say cats waste your money (by feeding and treating them e.t.c), and there not like a dog because there out most of the ***** day so they cant give you comfort. and pigeons you enjoy them come home and they may win you money (if thats all your interested in) which truly makes you proud!!! thats all i wanted to say!
Guest Posted April 24, 2006 Report Posted April 24, 2006 it is the LAW in most countries that Dogs are kept on leashes and now allowed to wander, perhaps we should be pressing for the same law to be brought in regarding scabbie moggies
Guest Posted April 24, 2006 Report Posted April 24, 2006 Donal, we all do our bit to help the pigeon sport, me, I work at least 2 hours of my own time per day, running the AU Help a Beginner Programme, what people do for the sport bears no refelction whatsoever on their opinions of how to deal with Cats. Personally it would be wrong of me to say I hate cats near my birds and fish what is more appropriate for me to say IS I BLEEDING WELL DETEST THEM. Over the past 6 years Steve and I have made very significant financial investments in both our Pigeons and Koi Carp and I'm not going to let anyone's scabby moggie destroy our investment and cause untold suffering to our birds and fish
keano Posted April 24, 2006 Report Posted April 24, 2006 hyacinth, do you use a mesh cover to protect your koi.?
Guest Posted April 24, 2006 Report Posted April 24, 2006 Our pond is too big to have mesh covers, we have been experiencing attacks by Osprey who will dive and take fish out of the water, so we have convered our pond cotton netting, the Koi do not like it they can see it through the water and are reluctant to come to the top for feeding
