slatey
its normally when theres 1 yb in nest its leg spreads to one side because theres more room and not much nesting matieril in the pot.if its that what you mean jordan ??? i have had a couple with this we dispose of them. tomo
jimmy white
ifits a single yb and not much nesting material this can cause this but as hyacinth says it would be better if you had a picture of it, if you desperately need the bird there are some info on the health topic, if you dont despertely need it, it might be better put down, sorry to be so harsh, but sometimes this has to be the way. jordanp31
Yes i am pretty sure that is what the bloke who warned me about is telling me about. He warned me when he saw that i only had one squeak in the nest... if my youngster did get this would it be able to survive??? i want it to because it is the first pigeon i hve ever bred!!! thanks alot jordan;)
Guest
Jordan Try putting the legs in the proper position by looping an elastic band round them, put him back in the nest bowl with a small bean bag or something like that
jimmy white
if you put the yb in a cardboard box about 4 inches broad with twigs in the bottom, it may recover,as its legs cant spread out that way and,see what its like in a week or two
Guest
Jordan, there were two previous threads on this subject, one called 'probs' on this board which seems to have been deleted, and one called 'Squabs Leg' on the Health Board, (page 2, 4th item on that page). If you go to the Health Board and click on page 2 at the bottom of the page you'll see the 'Squabs Leg' thread which contains advice and observations that Hyacinth and others have previously posted on this subject. Might save others going over it all again, and keep all information on the subject current and in the same place.

THE FIFER
NEST FELTS HELP WITH SINGLE YOUNGSTERS BUT AS HYACINTH SAY'S USE A BEAN BAG OR SOMETHING SIMILAR, SO AS TO STOP THE BIRDS LEGS SPREADING ON THE SLIPPY BOWL, NOT A LOT U CAN DO, I TAKE IT THE BIRD IS RUNG ON ONE LEG IF SO PUT A PLATIC RING ON THE OTHER AND TIE A PIECE OF STRING BETWEEN THE 2 RINGS, JUST ENOUGH TO PUT THE LEGS IN THE CORRECT POSSISION AND NOT ALLOW THEM TO SPREAD, BUT MAKE SURE U HAVE NEST FELTS OR PLENTI STRAW ETC IN THE BOWL,
Chris Little
We experienced this a few years ago with a single reared youngster. The cause was the fact that the parents had very little in the way of a nest contstructed in the bowl hence the youngster was struggling to stand on the slippery surface of the clay bowl. Nowdays it is nestfelts without fail Chris
THE FIFER
THIS IS THE CAUSE OF THIS CHRIS, SINGLE YOUNGSTERS WITH NO FELTS ETC IT'S NOT A DISAESE OR ANYTHING.

Guest
Chris and Archie I have mentioned this in previous threads, but there are some nest felts which come out of Belgium that are not properly treated, harbouring bacteria and killing babies at a day or two days old. This problem seems to crop up every year, we had it 5 years ago, but people are still complaining about it so it is obvious that they have not cured the problem. We now use dried pine needles.
