sean75 Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 just wondering went today and took me ybs off the dark and they was 1 lying dead on floor their is 1 pearch with corn on it and droppings arnt that good do u think it could be yb sickness as they dont look as good as yesterday any help would be appreciated
Guest Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 Sounds very much like YB sickness, but I would get a vet too check their droppings as a matter of Urgency, especially with having found one dead. When mine had YB sickness I noticed them being sick first and culled off any that looked like they were bad. Then treated the rest of them.
AlanWilkins Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 Are they siting around fluffed up n holding corn in the crop over nite if so it sounds like young bird sickness
Mike Lycett Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 Treat 'em for COCCI and do it RIGHT NOW!!! That's my advice... Putting Gem in the water will help, but clear water is ok. COCCI is the important thing
JAS Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 Hi sean75 just read your problem if you did not see any y\b looking poorly beforehand don,t think its y\b sickness. A mate had the same problem last year got a vet to do postmortem result internal canker\e-coli. He put his y\bs on 10 days Ridsol the birds picked up after 2 days. but keep them on it for the full 10 days.
TheSaddler Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 Mike - Whats the cheapest or best product to use? Is COXOID from Harkers any good? Or do you prefer something else
jimmy white Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 sounds to me like yb sickness, youll get plenty info onPAGE THREE on theHEALTH topic, it would do no harm to treat for cocci,as with many sicknesses, the bird is debilitated and copes a secondry infection , and the cocci level rises, hope the post helps you,, coxoid would be ok to treat them with
Guest Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 Seems very sudden onset of problem? Nothing odd or unusual happen before finding the dead bird? Is it one bird's droppings and thrown up grain, or do others have probs too?
jimmy white Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 thats the bit that bothers me bruno , the rest of his ybs look off colour
ribble Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 Mike - Whats the cheapest or best product to use? Is COXOID from Harkers any good? Or do you prefer something else id go with baycox.shorter treatment time 36-48hrs
AlanWilkins Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 might be a idea to get the droppings tested just in case but i dont know where do it any one else know?????
Guest Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 Yes, there is a lad who comes on here and the www.upnorthcombine.com site, who will test the droppings for FREE and he will email you with a picture of the results. Great service The lads called Stephen Steyert
Guest shadow Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 Dont treat blind get them tested other wise you could loose them all
Mike Lycett Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 Saddler I think pretty much most cocci are by & large the same. For a broad range of treatments go to www.chevita.com & look at the treatments there - very good indeed
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 DO THEY HAVE SOMETHING TO TREAT AILLING FOOTBALL TEAMS MIKE?
sean75 Posted May 9, 2006 Author Report Posted May 9, 2006 Seems very sudden onset of problem? Nothing odd or unusual happen before finding the dead bird? Is it one bird's droppings and thrown up grain, or do others have probs too? only 1 bird byt others dont look right culed another today just didnt look right
Guest Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 only 1 bird byt others dont look right culed another today just didnt look right No offence, but watch that you're not reacting out of fear / shock. When something like that happens you tend to notice every little thing a bird does and reckon 'somethings wrong' when it probably isn't. But if you still think a bird don't look right get it isolated from the others. Can you get the section cleaned & disinfected and put something in the drinker that'll stop anything spreading via the water until you get the droppings checked and a result? Floor White on the loft floor will help make sure nothing survives to cross-infect other birds either. And watch your own hygiene, deal with the yb section last in your loft routine, and wash your hands or spray them with disinfectant before going between sections. Watch you don't carry droppings from the yb end on the soles of your shoes..
