jordanp31 Posted June 5, 2006 Report Posted June 5, 2006 I have a pair in my loft that lost a pair of eggs and now they have lost both youngsters at week old. I am new to the hobby and i was just wondering if their is any chance of them going down on a third round of eggs? I will be moving all of the birds out of my old loft and into a new one but i would like them to have some youngsters before i move them. Also how old deos a pigeon hve to be until it is mature enough to have youngsters??? any help from anyone would be really apreatiated.
square_peg Posted June 5, 2006 Report Posted June 5, 2006 DOO'S WILL KEEP GOING THROUGH BREEDING CYCLE FOR MOST OF SPRING SUMMER AUTUMN AND SOME OF WINTER IF ITS MILD ENOUGH, IF DOO'S ARE SEXUALLY MATURE ENOUGH TO LAY EGGS THEN THEY ARE OLD ENOUGH TO REAR THEM YOU SAY LOST EGGS AND LOST YOUNGSTERS CAN YOU TELL US WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM?
peterpau Posted June 6, 2006 Report Posted June 6, 2006 I'd look to see why you've lost 'em. My first guess would be red mites.
AlanWilkins Posted June 6, 2006 Report Posted June 6, 2006 chap im the other side of Stourbridge if you want pop up one day n have a day around my lofts ask way n if i can ill put you straight
Guest Posted June 6, 2006 Report Posted June 6, 2006 Yes, would be interested to know what happened to the eggs and youngsters? Maybe you have another bird claiming this pair's box and the resultant fighting causing smashed eggs and trampled youngsters?
square_peg Posted June 6, 2006 Report Posted June 6, 2006 GO IN TO YOUR LOFT AND SIT A YOUNGSTER IN THE PALM OF YOUR HAND FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES PUT SQUAB BACK IN NEST AND LOOK IN YOUR HAND IF YOU HAVE RED MITE ,YOUR HAND WILL HAVE THE LITTLE BEGGARS CRAWLING ABOUT,MUST BE REAL BAD TO DRIVE DOO'S OF THE NEST THOUGH IF YOU SEE A LITTLE BLACK THING ON YOUR HAND , SQUEEZE IT AND IT WILL LEAVE A LITTLE RED STAIN ,THAT IS FRESH BLOOD THAT HAS JUST BEEN SUCKED OUT OF YOUR DOO'S
westy Posted June 7, 2006 Report Posted June 7, 2006 i heard 6 weeks old before they can breed but would never do it ontill a yearling.
jimmy white Posted June 7, 2006 Report Posted June 7, 2006 i think your thinking of 6 months westy, but as square peg says if their old enough to lay their old enough to rear :) :)hope things are going well j,w :)
