swilcox Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 For a number of weeks I have been monitoring a Dutch Internet Auction site and I have noticed a few irregularities with regard to how it’s operated. Pigeons are placed on the site with a starting bid of 50 euros, bids come in but you never see who has placed a bid! Each auction has a period of maybe 7 or 14 days and at the end its presumed sold. However 1 or 2 months later the pigeons are again placed on the site and offered for sale. Internet Auctions aren’t currently covered by any regulations but it leads me to ask the following questions. 1. Are the bids placed by the administrator of the site purely to simulate interest in the pigeon! 2. Is there a hidden reserve on the pigeon and the administrator bids to that amount hoping that someone will bid higher and buy the birds. 3. Is the Administrator/Owner trying to increase the value of the stock by bidding high prices on his own pigeons. I called the administrator of the site and asked why the pigeons were being re-sold and he said its because they had not been payed for but this is the 4th time they have offered along with many other pigeons as well. In reality im sure this Internet site is trying to achieve all three. There are some very genuine sites on the internet so isn’t it time we try to regulate how they operate? Stuart
mO Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 The ultimate regulation rests with oneself. Donn't promote dodgy sites, and donn't give them the hits. They will clean up or fade away. yours in sport. mO
swilcox Posted July 20, 2006 Author Report Posted July 20, 2006 Your probaly right Mo hence the reason i havnt named it, but i did want to highlight what goes on as many people dont notice these things. Stuart
pender Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 u did right in mention the site personaly i would have went one better and named it, for the simple fact some people are vunrable to these sort of people. and get took to the cleaners, one day they might come across the site there self and fall in to the trap, were is if they are told by some one like your self who has decent name in the sport they may stay clear of it.
