Don't know if anybody can throw any light on this. I remember reading about a successful fancier running a copper wire around his loft and burying it deep into the ground, in effect earthing the loft. Think it was to help in the breaking in of young-birds.

Anyone heard of this ?

hi tony,,, i can remember an old experienced fancier doing just that, [and have heard of others] but to be honest , i dont think there were any marked differances either in results or losses [one thing it would help if your loft was struck with lightning ;D ;D]

will be interesting to see any comments

Hello Jimmy,

In my first book I mention about the earthing of the pigeon loft and the car or pick up one trains their birds in. Pigeons build up static and need to de gauss to run this static to earth. It can effect the homing magnetism and the natural health of the bird. The Germans have produced a nest pan that can degauss a bird while sitting on the nest. Lofts and transporters can build up static to the detriment of our birds.

Regards

Jack

Remember an article by Bilco in the BHW last year. Recommended running copper wire all round the loft and earthing same. A 'Faraday' cage?

Sounds awful like a lightning earth conductor to me and although it can save a building's electrical equipment from extensive damage during a lightning strike, wondered if it would attract lightning to the building too?
