Guest mikkey Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 To manage and fly a good kit of Rollers takes an awful lot of know how,its as fascinating and difficult as trying to put together a good team of racing birds, and anyone doing so has my respect as a pigeon fancier, very exciteing and gratifying watching a good kit of Rollers perform, not an easy thing to do your right there mate ive been having problems with mine lately but i think ive turned the corner now a few weeks ago they were flying 2 hours plus, then they wouldnt fly at all, now they are up to 40 minutes. so i hope im getting there maybe they were tired ???????
storm rollers Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 hi all there seems to be a lot of conffusion about rollers and tumblers so ear we go a tumbler will perform up to 3 or 4 tumbles quite slow and gracefull. where as a roller will wrap up into a tight ball and spin at an amazing speed and cover any thing up to 30 or 40 foot. also it is thought they are suppose to be high flyers but if that was the case then there would be no comps as the judge needs to see them to score the brakes and quality. hope this helps
gangster Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 STEVEO ON HERES 1 OF THE BEST ROLLER FLYERS IVE EVER SEEN......ITS HARD 2 GET THE FULL KIT 2 ROLL AT THE SAMETIME AND VERY IMPRESSIVE WHEN THEY DO.......

DOVEScot Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 hows it going dovescot wat are ya feeding ya rollers and how much and how often ya fly um Chickadee feeds them on a mix of foods, they are out every day just now, building a seperate kit box down beside the workshop as Chickadee thends to over feed them :-/
storm rollers Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 the mixed corn wont be doing you any favers mate if you ask any roller flyer they will tell ya the same 90% of roller flyers only feed on weat. how long are they flying for ? how many are ya flying ?
Merlin Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 Carbos, fed accordingly for Rollers that are working is right and proper, but its not benifical to long term condition to feed only carbs constantly, there is a time when proteins have got to be fed,and subsequently their rolling and work rate will diminish accordingly, but Storm is correct they have to be controlled, again its a fascinating hobby,to master it correctly requires patience, dedication, and no little effort, and decent birds.
storm rollers Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 i agree merlin well to a point the only time my birds are not on weat is through the winter when they are on a mix of young bird and conditioner but as for the roll and work rate diminishing i have to disagree but we all av are opinnions lol

Thanks for that, I only just got the rollers this year, we have 14 whites/gay pieds, out of that we got 6 pairs, they are just on open loft just now from a small section in one of our lofts, I plan to build a seperate loft or kit box for them, any advice would be appreciated Duncan
storm rollers Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 i would breed your self about 25/30 birds to start off with mate it seems alot but there will be accidents such as roll downs bumps and ofcourse the hawk. av you ad a look round on the net at kit boxes ?
gangster Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 my buddy used red band sometimes i think in prep for competitions,,,,,,there was a kit box on e-bay a few weeks ago.....................also i read an american article he had hawk problems so he bought a team of oriental rollers he let these out before he flew his kit...the hawk struggled with the orientals due 2 there twisting n rolling teqniques he said the hawks got bored and did 1 after a while....
