Guest Paulo Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 Thanks Craig, going to use them for stock mate and just race the young un's.
Guest Paulo Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 Red grizzle is now settled, let out on sunday nicked off no sign of until last night had three young uns out plus others in wire cage. She landed in the loft and trapped staright away which is a result cause last time she went missing she ended up in someone else loft. Just shows you what hunger does as a moviator. Only thing is she is actually a HE started chatting one of the hens up blowing his airsacs up etc gutted will have to get too janssen hens for them. Learning well now three birds out 2 I have settled and a young un from steves the blue one with a white flight its first time out the cage. Rattled the corn tin and they were all straight in. Pigeons in the cage are learning that going in the loft means food as well as they were struggling trying to get out the cage to fly over to the loft as soon as they heard the corn tin go. Let each one fly from my hand from about a metre and a half away through the door and into the trapping corridor. Sorry if this all sounds boring to you old sweats on here but I'm just enjoying all the ups and downs of getting the birds settled and flying.
Wiley Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 Paulo have a check on the red see if it has an black splashes.i had a mealy here in the yb shed i call him the gay mealy, young uns dont no what they are at first, this pigeon used to let other cocks tred him aswell as himself tredding a young hen which he went down on eggs with and hatched, but he is extremely splashed with black in his tail and wing
Guest Paulo Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 I'll have a look it looks like a hen to me but you sometimes get a henny cock It does not have black splashes I think I will check again tonight. The one that is def a cock the red one, has black flecks in his tail

Guest Paulo Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 Aye Les been keeping a close eye on her behaviour this weekend. Hasn't been trying to chat the hens up again so must be a hen christ its hard to tell with young uns sometimes lol. Steve yours are coming along great had them all out for the first time out of the cage yesterday. All having a bit flutter about and sitting on roof to get used to their wings. Blue pied and blue with white flight nicked off but came back half a hour after I had the others back in and trapped staright away when I rattled the corn tin. Paul
Guest Paulo Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 Just found some old pictures sad day on saturday burn the final sheds down on the old allotments before the vultures come in to build their houses found these pictures in an old biscuit tin in a set of drawers. Old man with one of his champs he looks a lot younger and a lot less miserable his sweater is very 80's through
Guest Paulo Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 Bird is a buschaert and it won tours, abbeville and a number of water races
Guest Paulo Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 Still every downside has its upside weighed in a couple of ton of scrap and whilst at the scrap yard noticed some heavy duty mesh panels really really strong so got all 6 off him for 20 quid should do me nicely when I get my old bird cree sorted I can use them to whack up an aviary for the widowhood hens
Wiley Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 nice pics mate how many years ago was those pics taken!sounds like a bargain with the mesh
Guest Paulo Posted October 3, 2006 Report Posted October 3, 2006 years ago mate about 1980's period I think they are in black and white because my dads mate was a keen am photographer and he got him to take a few found a ton of old pictures of the allotments brings back memories.
