Pompey Mick Posted October 3, 2006 Report Posted October 3, 2006 Just after a bit of advice. I am going to split the section where I keep my YB's and retired racers/stock birds. For the past few years I've flown my YB's out with my older stock to make it easier for my wife who looks after the birds while I'm at work. I intend to keep to this system partly next year i.e. fly the YB's out with th older pigeons until they are kitted up and settled, then I want to seperate them. To do this I'm splitting the section into two, YB's in the front, Stock at the back with the perches fitted to the new dividing partition which means they are in the centre of the loft. I would like to back the box perches with wire (for ventilation purposes) rather than a solid back, would the YB's be happy with being exposed front & back, I personally can't see it's any worse than a Vee-perch Any thoughts on the matter?
Chatrace Posted October 3, 2006 Report Posted October 3, 2006 They will not rest as good if they can still see each other and bill thru the wire
Guest Posted October 3, 2006 Report Posted October 3, 2006 ;)Hi Mick , im no expert (just my opinion ), i would back youre box perches with peg board . its like hardboard but with multiple holes drilled in it ,paint the side where ybs are a dark colour (they will be less distracted by obs in rear section .) paint ob side white to maximise light ,finally have mesh on connecting door to aid ventilation hope the above makes sense and is of interest . GOOD LUCK WITH YOURE PROJECT andy . ;)
Pompey Mick Posted October 3, 2006 Author Report Posted October 3, 2006 Good thinking Andy, that gives me the best of both worlds, never thought of that, well worth considering. Thanks once again. Mick
Wiley Posted October 3, 2006 Report Posted October 3, 2006 or to aid ventilation y not install a chimney??
Pompey Mick Posted October 3, 2006 Author Report Posted October 3, 2006 Another good point, Thanks for your interest Wiley, You had a result with the Vandenbeeles from Henry Gonsalves when you see prices in other adverts, you must have been quick off the mark to get them.
Wiley Posted October 3, 2006 Report Posted October 3, 2006 i got the full sale list of pigeons on the 1st septmeber mate, one of two ppl to get the list,by the 2nd of sep i told him what i wanted and bought a few, and a week before the list was in the bhw again i bought a few! Lot 1 came with a unrung hen which is out of his best hen so it was a bargain for a ?100 as the cocks bred fed,and club winners, and a daughter out of him won the week after i bought him.i have 4 of henrys vandenbelles, and 2 of his melderts and sonjens including the hen that bred his gold race winner, funnily enough a son out of the hen i bought was in the sale of j and p walkers,i think he was lot 65 interested in finding out how much he went for if anybody knows.I bought some quality birds,i wanted to buy a few more but were i told him a couple that i wanted instantly when i saw the full sale list, after i looked more deeply and wanted to buy a few more this was on the 2nd and they had gone, but i was glad i got the pigeons, and i have to say henry gonsalves is a top bloke and been a brillant fancier for years.
