Bobthegas Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 Hi all, please give me your opinion/advise, I am a novice in the sport so go gentle with me!!!!! lol lol I purchased 12 birds of a well known flyer about two weeks ago, he stated to me not to let anyone look at the birds for a month as they were moulting,a friend came round yesterday and i asked him a honest opinion, he said he thought they were of very poor quality, he showed me that the birds were full of "fret marks", he said that the birds could have been ill at some time or just showing weekness. A second fancier has since seen the birds and the remarks are the same. Do i now swallow the money spent as a bad purchase/ or phone the fancier up and seek advice/money back/exchange etc. Please tell me what you established flyers would do or expect. If your going to give me a harsh time just remember,"Dont kick a man while he`s down" Thanks i will reply to any B****ckings later, works calling.
Chatrace Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 I would ask the guy about there condition. Did you get to look at and of his breeders and or stock. Did he say they would be in good health?
Guest shadow Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 Take them and tell him your not happy with them
peterpau Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 OK so you may have bought a load of old rubbish. In reality there are thousands of rubbish birds for sale every week or maybe they're all potential winners. Who knows? What I do know is, I've spent too much of my hard earned, to believe anybody. Every bird I bring in is treated as rubbish. The pedigree goes in the draw and down the road they go, or maybe there offspring go. If you end up with just two left you might have found what you are looking for. Every bird needs to be fully tested. Any breeders with no young left need to be dissposed of. Good birds treated badly get ill and will show signs of stress (fret marks) Only time will tell if they may breed or race. My best friend always sorts them for me. He takes 'em down the road far and often. He is of course a baskett. In the spring I will bring in 6/10 youngsters and if they aint as good as those I have already, they'll be gone at seasons end.
maksofpakistan Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 lokk young man in this world when ever u would like to start any thing u will face such thing the best way to start is to get knowledge about that thing if u have idea about pigeons then look them from ur eyes and try to jug them before making any decion we r just writing not seen ur birds . hear every one but not accept them if ur friend noted fret mark then why u not so if u will return them back then u might get bad ones from other the same happend to me when i started here asvice is try to learn pigeon keaping first and then racing concern some doctor not fanciar(because every facier have its onw thought) if he say tha r ill and then try to return them back but dont make such mistake again for any further contect please sent mail on m_abbas_sial@hotmail.com
square_peg Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 PHONE THE FANCIER UP,TELL HIM THE TRUTH,YOU HAVE HAD A COUPLE OF FRIENDS ROUND LOOKING AT YOUR PURCHASES.BOTH AGREE THAT THEY LOOK A BIT WORSE FOR WEAR,DONT GET STROPPY BE CALM WAIT ON HIS REPLY .ALL DOO'S HEAVY IN THE MOULT LOOK BAD,THEY WONT BE FRETTED UNLESS THEY HAVE BEEN OUT,OR,ILL,OR MISTREATED IE NOT FED PROPERLY. ARE THEY OLD OR YOUNG BIRDS ,HAVE THEY BEEN RACED, THINK MAYBE ITS A BIT LATE AFTER 14 DAYS TO COMPLAIN ,BUT , IF HE IS A TRUE FANCIER HE WILL SEE YOU OK LET US KNOW HOW IT GOES
jimmy white Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 i would advise the same as square peg , go back to him and explain the situation honestly, if theres any decency in him he should put you right,,and to be fair the birds look bad now when their moulting , as far as the fret marks, these can be cause with a variety of reasons , it usualy means that when that particular flight was growing the bird has went through some sort of stress??whatever that stress may have been , the fancier should be able to tell you [if hes a decent fancier]
Bobthegas Posted October 5, 2006 Author Report Posted October 5, 2006 Just to advise, the birds are this years late breds approx July all the tail feathers have fret marks, and all the flights that have not moulted out. Thanks all Bob
Guest shadow Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 Latebreds will carry flights over till next year depending on the age and fret marks on the tail will have been caused by some kind of stress but should not affect them next year they will moult normally next year.
barlbylofts Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 if you not happy take them back and tell him that you have been advised by a fellow pigeon fancer that the birds are ill or not what you expected. its all i can say as we have not seen the birds to remark on them our selfs.
barlbylofts Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 sorry me again i ment to also say is that if the birds are ill then yeah take them back other wise all birds are rubbish untill they proove themselfs otherwise.hope i been a help mark barlbylofts@aol.com
Ronnie Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 I would think the guy was pretty genuine when he sold them to you and it may just be a few sour grapes because you bought the birds of this guy and not of your friends. If it was me i would stick by my decision to buy them if they are not for you dont buy again. As for fret marks and stuff i cant comment as i am new to the sport as well. From my experiance most pigeon fanciers are genuine enough when selling birds .Its just advice they like to hoard
