swilcox Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 it really P**ses me off when i see none fanciers selling pigeons especailly when they are bringing them over from Europe and selling them in the UK because no one will buy them in there own country!!!! We should hound these people out and send them back!!!!!! They are selling crap If you dont know what im talking about look in the BHW the last couple of weeks!!!
Guest Paulo Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 Speaking from a beginner's point of view it is certainly confusing the amount of pigeons on offer from all over the place guess if it has a fancy foreign name that noone has heard of it will get a better price. Has it always been like this in the pigeon selling trade or is it getting worse?
jimmy white Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 what surprizes me more,, people buy the blinken things , because theve got belge on there ring, suddenly makes them great , really were hust hoarding up their second hand trash
Guest Paulo Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 there are as many good pigeons in the north east of england as there are in Belgium
Mike Lycett Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 Stu Who you on about ? PM me !
Guest Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 What I would say to anyone selling pigeons is that they stick to marketing and selling their own and not worry about what others are doing. If what you're selling is good then customers will keep coming back and word-of-mouth will bring in even more customers ... regardless of whatever else is on the market.
swilcox Posted September 29, 2006 Author Report Posted September 29, 2006 True Lovedeanlad but i hate to see people mis-lead!!!!! Just how i am. Stuart
mark Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 thats the problem they see that belgium pigeon ring and automatically think its the bees knees, there is as much crap over there as there is here being sold already, must be awful to be a new starter.
Guest Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 thats right...but isnt there foriengers coming over shortly selling their pigeons...wether their flying or not.....as someone said ..cant they sell them over in their own country?
Guest Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 Stu Like you I was incensed by an advert in the BHW IN mAY 2005 ... I complained to the Editor that I believed it unacceptable for a advert to have no loft address or loft name just a Mr Smith (not even a christian name or initials) as the contact and only a mobile number. The advert may of course have been 100% genuine but I was disappointed in the BHW for printing an advert of such an anonymous and seemingly untraceable nature? Seeing as the BHW is wholly owned by the RPRA I, like you, expect some professional diligence to be carried out on advertisers?
swilcox Posted September 29, 2006 Author Report Posted September 29, 2006 You will not see an advert now without a name and address and thats down to me as i pulled the editor up on it!! I must add the the editor is a top guy!!! Stuart
Guest Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 yeah full name and address is now required, it does make a big differrence. people do knock people for selling birds for £x, but as i say to everyon, its not their fault is it? they must be getting that price for them other wise they would lower their prices so whos fault is it?
Guest Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 Stu Just re-read my emails back-and-fro with Steve Richards on that matter and he was pretty insistent AT THAT TIME that there was NO requirement to print full names and addresses so long as they actually had them in the advertisment request sent to the office? Well I'm sure glad that this policy has now changed because we have to take all steps to protect buyers. Personally I no longer buy pigeons from adverts (except Louella's cheapies) perhaps I'm not that trusting? The last time I did the guy was to supply me with pigeons from proven stock pigeons but when reading the pedigrees it was clear that some of the parents were yearlings! Quite how they count as proven breeders I don't know but I guess it's a play-on-words in some cases?

CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG HERE OR IF I AM MIXING YOU UP WITH SOMEBODY ELSE BUT WAS THERE NOT A BIT ABOUT YOU ON THE FORUM WHERE MEMBERS WERE TRYING TO GET BIRDS FROM YOU AND THEY WERE HAVING PROBLEMS GETTING A RESPONSE FROM YOU ??

westburylofts Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 True Lovedeanlad but i hate to see people mis-lead!!!!! Just how i am. Stuart Plenty of pigeon fanciers are the same though, there are a lot out there that will rip you off as soon as look at you. dont oftern see them putting much back in to the sport as well ray
gangster Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 i agree with what youre saying stu were now an easy market for all the sh**!!!! and as for louella bewted they in fairness have spent ridiculas amounts on top bloodlines to bring them to the working mans pocket . they breed more than there fair share of big winners.... : : : : :
Wiley Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 louella i wouldnt say run him out of town, because every pigeon i have bought of the family have always done well for us here. But obviously every pigeon isnt going to be gooden
Ronnie Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 i bought 12 young birds from louella lost 8 3 died due to injury and stuff but the hen i have left is a special bird.it was my first year in the sport this year and allthough i only finished mid table at best.(quite often last man by a long shot) this hen flew every race and was either my first or second bird in the clock when it was second it was beaten by its nest mate a big cheq cock who i lost second to last race.I assume it was the nest mate as the ring numbers followed on from each other. The rest of my team where bred by local fancier who has won old bird and averages for three years and cleared up with young birds this year.Apart from 6 staf van reets who i got from Red Dragon Lofts.I know you cant gleam much from young birds especially as it is my first year but this pigeon just stands out it is allways fit and looks on form. But getting back to LPW i believe you cant get much better for the price.
