how long should I........

Hi guys just a quick question i got 8 rollers yesterday 10/06/08 there is a mix of yearlings and this years young how long should i keep them in for before i let them out usually i only keep them in for a few days but these times i have had other birds flying in and out this time no birds flying and was told last year when i bought some old birds to pluck flight feathers or band them till they were broke but that seems cruel to me any advice on breaking them to my loft greatly taken

keep them in for about aweek let them out hungary try keep them on the ground for a few days it works for me

by being hungary so when you throw some corn thay flaping for it

Rollers I found are one of the easiest to home, one week to two weeks, as long as they are fed well and have reasonable housing they will stay, let them out hungry just before your normal feeding time, the older birds I got I  let them go down on eggs first

Good thing about my rollers they seem keen to breed and a few of Billy's went for feeders and are doing well

i have had them before and changed to racers but when the hawk struck we then decided my son and i to get rollers again i am going to get a few racers for my self and the boys will take care of the rollers

might be a idea to let them breed up not to sure on the best way just a tought never tried to break a bird before so dont know if it works wait till there on eggs couldent see why it wont work could be wrong

Best to let them go to nest before you let them out, that way at least they are looking to return, and if they do stray a little bit far from the loft, or get a bit spooked, they will want to get back to the loft and won't just keep flying. The problem is if one starts heading for the wild blue yonder, others might follow.....

hi guys just been and got 5 more rollers still in need of a block of 4 boxes but my temprary mesure will work hopefully so i have now decided i am sticking to rollers no racers for me at the min till i get another loft up and running
