hi all

have i got my genetic knowledge all wrong

there as been a blue cheq gaby hen for sale on this site

the sire being WITTENBUIK 360

the dam being MISTRESS

i believe both these are blues

i always thought that 2 blues paired together could only breed blues or blue with white feathering never blue cheqs

could be that i am wrong with the colours of WITTENBUIK 360 and MISTRESS

your thoughts please

i know the books say blue to blue = blue

but we have had cheqs from 2 x blues (but you generally find the grandparent/s are cheq/s

but the mind bogels at times?? (always a good subject)

always possible........always difficult to decide with blues/cheqs..

i know this year we had 2 x blues (hartogs) breed a RED WF HEN??

oh, by the way our old Red Pd Cock was in the box above, so we all know who's the daddy here!!

ha ha,

simple...if a youngster is a diff colour to parents ...then it could be a throw back from a diff colour crossing in past parentage..i had a red cock  and a cheq hen throw out a black...the sire of the cheq was a  black cock and dam a cheq hen.

NANCYVIEWLOFTS,You are correct that two blue bars cannot breed a blue checker. This is because checker is dominant to bar.A blue bar will not be carrying a pattern gene for checker so it cannot breed one
