One for the "BIG BOYS"

Hi guys!

I have recently been told by a learned friend of mine, that on Saturday 10th

June 2006 (The day of the Sennen Cove National race) that my winning pigeon, racing from Portsmouth (200 miles) E.S.E. wind, recorded the highest winning velocity  (1878.12) in England, and probably the U.K.  Not bad for an out and out channel man eh!  ;D ;D

I have my reservations about this, but he is usually right.

Has anyone on the forum heard of a higher velocity on that particular day, if so please burst the bubble. Vic. ;)

Thanks guys, (fingers still crossed). Ribble, one weekend away for the G.Slade trophy. John she'll do you proud (same stuff) from any distance. Cheers. Vic.

Ribble, no monetary gain whatsoever, just the satisfaction of knowing that my bird was the fastest pigeon out of perhaps 150,000 to 200,000  birds on that particular day. Mind boggling to say the least!

Craig I aint got a photo of him yet, but will have one in the near future. As I mentioned beforehand, if anybody has heard of a higher velocity, please let me know. Thanking all for the complimentary postings. Vic.

like you say,not bad for a "channel man".

cock or hen?how was the bird motivated?did you change your usuall system thinking there would be no channel racing?it would be interesting to know.

Ribble.

I usually "reserve" a few nestboxes purposely for motivation over the channel.

This year, on the wednesday before the race, I openned the spare box in his 8 box widowhood section, "alarming" all seven widowhood cocks. Obviously, one must be in attendance whilst the box is open.  I did the same last year for the Niort race (504 miles) and finished 1st & 2nd.

He is a 4yr  old blue Catrysse cross, through Massar's six for £99 that I bought a few years back, crossed with my own family. Vic.

Like to add my congrats to the others already offered Vic.

Beat your velocity though.  2000 ypm  ;D

Unfortunately the 'ypm' is yards per month.   :B: :B

Hoping to do better next year. Much better.   :D
