I use floorwhite, but if you do make sure u brush it well in dont have it blowing about, looks nice and makes the loft dry. keeping the colour of whites i find giving them good clean baths with garlic in it, also let them get the old sunshine on their body,

We use nothing in the feeding but deep litter is an advantage to keeping the feather feet clean :)

been keeping an eye on this thread as i keep indian fantails

ta me le DOVEscot (i agree with DOVEscot)

much better to see the birds in their natural state

that doesn't mean the birds can not have a garlic or vinegar bath

but floor whitener curtain cleaner

its a bit like going out with a woman or man (whatever you prefer) in Belfast we call them cake bake loads of makeup and when you see them without it scary you would not recognise them much the same as birds

my thoughts for what its worth

Bar far the easiest way is to not let them get dirty in the first place, keep the loft clean, regular baths and not to many birds and they look after themselves!

I used to use 4 to 6 inch of sand  with loft white on loft floor, rack it with a garden rake every day, use polls instead of box perches [i used brush polls ]that way they not walking in it drops straight on to the  dry sand.  plus with the polls it used to stop there feathers breaking on the feet.

Deep litter sand is good but needs to be kiln dried sand or the yellow comes out of it if it gets wet!

Phil

i use beach sand, still has tracers of coal from local beach, no yellow comes out of it,i spray it with virkon s disinfectant
